Show DOUGLASS MOUNTAIN COPPER Interest Being Taken i This Colorado Colo-rado Mining Camp Mr Van Walters who is with the Conover Piano company of this city who has just returned from a trip up into the Ulntah country and east from I there across the Utah line into Routt county Col where the Douglass copper cop-per mines arc located speaks very highly of this new camp and is of the opinion t11s with development it will I open out into one of the most productive product-ive copper districts in the west Douglass mountain is located about 130 miles east and a little north from Vernal in this state and it is there that the Bromide copper mine is located lo-cated mention of which has been made in these columns This mine according accord-ing to Mr Walters has disclosed a fissure vein six feet in width in which the pay streak is from ten inches to six feet wide that carries average values val-ues of from 43 to 61 per cent copper to the ton und is one of the greatest deposits de-posits of this metal to be found in this country It costs 20 a ton to ship the ore from I Bromide mine to Rock Springs Wyo which is the nearest railroad point and from there the freight east is S10 a ton on their consignments As stated some time ago by The Herald the Bromide mine has been sold and i is understood that Mr Walters was interested in the purchase being associated with S D Colton Co of Vernal in the deal and it is believed be-lieved by the new purchasers that they have acciuired a bonanza proposition in this property Mr Walters states that there are a large number of promising prospects in this locality which are located on the vein which can be traced for a considerable con-siderable distance and that as soon as the season opens this spring a great deal of development work will be don thereIn there-In coming home from Douglass mountain on the 2nd and 3rd of this I month Mr Walters noticed that there were from 200 to 300 men on the i sonite lands on the Uncompahgre reservation I res-ervation and that nearly all of the gil sonite deposits had been located by them some of the claims being located I three deep This was before word had been received that the bill opening the reservations had been passed so that they wore sooners sure enough and no mistake These men have since been driven off from the reservation by United States troops and there is every reason to believe if the lands are thrown open that a day will be set so that all will have an even break in making location on the promised land The erilsonite ledge on the reservation reserva-tion crops out boldly on the surface ton crus boldl surace where the deposit is often four feet in I width at the grass roots and the vein can be traced for a distance of 30 miles or more so that it is no wonder that I there is a scramble among mining men to be the first to get a foothold in that I region as the possession of one of these asphaltum or gilsonite claims II means a fortune to the owner I |
