| Show TIED nED BIRD STIUIViE I Fine Body of Cnrhonatei Uncovered In This Old Property I Almost every veteran miner in Utah acquainted with the history of the old Redbird mine on Black mountain near the head of City Creek canyon Black mountain with its seams of rich mineral and indications of large deposits of heavy lead ores has been stormed by miners and prospectors for the last twenty years and at times they have had reason to believe that they had struck it rich but the chutes of ore have proved to be nothing but pockets or chimneys and there Is no doubt but that for every dollar taken from the mines of that locality that a thousand have been put In Still the Indications have been so favorable that the owners of properties on the mount In have been unable to stay away and year after year they have worked and toiled and toiled and worked led on sometimes by a narrow seam of rich ore which often widened out into pockets of considerable size only to pinch out again with nothing but a barren vein to follow The Red Bird mine on Black mountain moun-tain has been developed more than any other property on the hill and still it neveu was productive in the literal sense of the term although a number of shipments of highgra3e ore hve been made from this ground in the development of which the work consisted principally in the driving of 1 Ou u a Jung lUlUtJ II W UICl CIUlUlt ULrich UL-rich ore were occasionally encountered The Felts Youngs and Jim Tibbitts of this city have expended a large amount of money in the development of this mine and from year to year I they have returned to the development I develop-ment of the property only to be disappointed dis-appointed in the end and it became a standing joke in mining circles in this City that the millenlum will come when pay ore Is found in the Red Bird Early in the spring this mine was secured under lease and bond by Dr G W Shores and E E Crooks who as soon as the snow went off the his made a careful examination at the property with the result that they eventually threw up the bond and lease which was taken up later by Charles Hanks of this pity who has been pegging away In the development develop-ment of this mine nearly all summer the most of this work consisting in the extension of the tunnel which a few days ago was in nearly liOOO feet when a lucky shot disclosed a fine body of carbonate ore and although the value of the ore is not publicly nubIcly known as yet there Is every reason to believe that the new discovery will prove to be a permanent deposit ol the precious metals and very rich at that |
