Show I BURLEY RETURNS Had a Lively Tie at the Chicago I Meeting General Passenger Agent Burley returned I re-turned from Chicago and was at his desk yesteraay morning Mr Burley is looking wed but he relates that the meeting which he attended st a warm one There i were representative men from all the railroads in attendance and there were several complications to be avoided One meetlns haa been held when he reached there out afterwards there were several Mr Burley states that while the men representing the several lines wanted to meet the rates of the Canadian Pacific there was plenty of discussion as to what the methods should be Some favored I tne allowing of the northern roads to go ahead and tight the mater out while others wanted the gateways of the Missouri I Mis-souri opened and tne transcontinental lines permitted to engage also For a time the Oregon Short Line held the key I to the situation Mr Burley could have negatived any proposition made but he was there for business and the result was he got all he contended for and at the same time the meeting was satisfied the best action which could have been taken was taken That the results will prove satisfactory is evidenced by the fact that yesterday the Klondike travel over the lines of the Short Line and the Western began to show a decided Improvement 11 Burley does not think there will be any further culling by the Canadian Pacific Pa-cific although the western roads are prepared in the event of further monkey I ing by the Canada to make it as interesting inter-esting to face a situation as the Britishers wish I |
