Show AT THE GOLDEN GATE Contracts Let to Handle the Large Dumps of Ore I Mercur March 7A contract has been let to Walter Jenkins to remove j the large dumps at the north shaft of the Golden Gate I An upraise has been made from the I bottom of the mine to the surface a distance of 200 feet Here the ore will be dumped and from the bottom of the shaft will find its way to the hoist Two hundred and fifty tons per day will be used and at this rate it will take about IS months to clear away I the dumps It is here that all the ore I from the workings has been dumped and the dump would be a pretty good mine in itself I Today two mules were put down In the mine where they will spend the rest of their lives hauling cars along the tunnel between the Brickyard and the Golden Gate shaft I A force of 20 additional men has been put to work at the Overland during dur-ing the past few days and work on the new double compartment shaft Is now I In progress The drift In which the clrr ftsd i I rich strike was made some time ago has been run a distance of 400 feet and the values still hold their own and the ore body still holds out A number of men are now at work blocking out the ore and preparing for the mill that I no doubt will be built this year The site on which the working shaft Is beIng be-ing sunk Is about 500 feet northeast from the old shaft on the side of the hill where a mill can be erected with I I a good location for a waste dump I From the opening of the shaft to the underground workings is a distance of 400 feet which will soon be reached At least a third of the ore inthe Geyser I Gey-ser mill is being taken from the mill tunnel The vein has been steadily Increasing creasing in size until now the hanging and foot walls are nearly 40 feet apart I and the face of the drift averages about 4 which is a paying proposition at the j I extremely low cost of working the ore 1 at the Geyser Other parts of the mine J furnish highervvalues whIch increases 1 materially the average in the tanks II making it about 5 per ton for all the ore handled j The agent of the Provo Electric company com-pany is in town and will put men at work in a few days extending the line I to the Chloride Point and wiring the houses In camp for electric lights I loe Three shifts of men are at work in I the Black Home group on the west dip The ground belongs to Mr Dig nowity and it is Intended to do considerable con-siderable work there this summer The Utah and Galena Charlie Van Alystlne and Charlie Crismon who returned the first of the week from Fish Springs district speak in glowing terms of the condition of the Utah and Galena mines and both believe be-lieve that a great future is in store for these properties At the Galena good progress is being made in the erection of the new gaso I line hoist and air compressor and it will not be long before the plant will be in operation and the work of development de-velopment facilitated by the utilization I of machine drills while as to the mine it is looking well with nice bodies of a good grade of shipping ore In sight The new working shaft at the Utah is down a depth of 15 feet and the new hoist for this property which is almost al-most a counterpart of that going up on its near neighbor will not be Installed until a depth of 75 feet is attained so that there will be no danger of injuring injur-ing the machinery by blasting The Utah is also in a most promising i condition and was in the market with 1 a shipment of secondclass ore which I was sold on controls showing values of 378 per cent lead 742 ounces silver and I 160 in gold to the ton In speaking the district Mr Cris mon states that the Utah NO2 being I I worked by the Morehouse people has a nice shipment of an excellent grade of mineral on the dump and the mine is In good shape while on the Emma work has just been resumed with a force of I five men Mr Crismon who Is slowly recovering from a most tedious illness Is regaining strength steadily and his many friends are pleased to note how much better he Is looking than a month ago Saddle Creek Mines Logan March 7W H Jackson came down today from the Saddle Creekmn Ing camp or Danish Klondike as It Is called He reports everything looking favorable on the Copper King and says the snow is rapidly melting there He left on the afternoon train for Ogden to arrange for more men being put to work on the Copper King A few days ago a new strike was made in the Golden Gate mine in Green canyon Just how valuable a one It la cannot be determined until the result of a test of the ore are obtained froir Mercur where a sample was sent today to-day The stuff now being taken out is a mottled very heavy decomposed quartz and already 150 tons of It have been taken out The owners of the mine are feverishly awaiting the returns I re-turns from Mercur A New Incorporation The firm of Peyton Snyder owning the leasehold on the Sioux mill at Robinson Rob-inson and whose business Is
