Show JO THE UTAH DEMOCRACY The Democrats of Utah have every reason ito be hopeful and to be encouraged en-couraged by the outlook for 1895 When we said this two or three months ago our Republican contemporaries set up a howl of derision They regarded Republican Re-publican success in this territory asa as-a foregone conclusion They thought the Republican majority in the constitutional consti-tutional convention had so fixed affairs I af-fairs that they could capture most of the counties They felt they were sure of the first state legislature and would in all probability capture the state offices But a change has come over the spirit of their dreams The people have emerged from the dust and smoke raised by the Republicans during the last political campaign In Utah and are seeing with a clearer vision The I truth of the fundamental principles of j Democracy shines brightly before them The fallacies of Republican sectionalism sec-tionalism selfishness and monoply loom up in the hideous array The failures of Republican legislators and constitutionmakers are so palpable and the fact that the brains and the I leadership are chiefly in the Demo I cratic party is so apparent that the voters are alive to the necessity of looking for men on whom they can depend de-pend within the ranks of the party of the Constitution and of the people By reference to some figures and details de-tails in another part of this paper our readers will see that we have substantial substan-tial reasons for repeating the words of hope and encouragement which The Herald has already rfered to the citizens citi-zens of Utah By diligence persever once complete organization and the influence of the women citizens united with th ° t t the men the Democratic part will have good reasons to expect j a triumph at the polls next November I The party is united it has been aroused to action by the reverse of last i fall and it usually fights better after I a defeat than after a victory The enemy is divided The ambitions of so many within its ranks are conflicting con-flicting and the spirit which animates them is so antagonistic that weakness is bred among them They have not t single live issue on which to go before I tin public Misrepresentation of the i I aims and doings of the Democratic party is their chief stock in trade The signs of the times are against them The trend of popular feeling has turned turn-ed from the channels of 1894 Democrats go in and win You can do it if you wilL Read the facts and figures presented by The Herald buckle on your armor close up ranks I and make up your minds that Utah shall go into the Union as a Democratic I Demo-cratic state We say this with all confidence con-fidence that it can be done Do not falter and do not fail |
