Liday and Qnaltrougrh Malifc a Tandem Record The initial Saturday matinee at Becks Hot Springs bicycle track was witnessed by rather a small crowd yesterday afternoon but the sport was good The train service was unsatisfactory unsatis-factory and those who waited for the I races to finish had to wait for the 710 train down Of course the contests were not so exciting as those in a big meet The time was slow in the class A races and both of these events had to be ridden over three times before the time limit was reached The class B events were satisfactory Weiler captured cap-tured the mile and Thatcher the half mile Liday and Qualtrough the crack class B tandem team established anew a-new Utah record for a half mile un paced flying start making it in 59 flat Schefski established a record taking his heat in the record time of 41 25 He was however compelled to keep his feet well going as other short distance flyers were after him close Tom Cooper came after him and made him hustle to keep his lead clear although there was no doubt about the result after Bald had once shown in front in the home stretch Cabanne seemed sure of second but Cooper was too fleet for him in the last hundred yards while Doc Brown slipped and made Charley Murphy take fifth place Brown won a good race in the mile handicap for class B from the SO yard mark Monte Scott oppeared to have had the race won but he weakened in the last quarter after sprinting too soon I Two bad accidents occurred during the afternoon Besides that in which John 1 Lawson the terrible Swede fell in the 18th mile of his
