Worried Regarding the Matter Mat-ter The news of the prospective organization organiza-tion of one of the branches of the newly Incorporated Standard Telephone company com-pany to cover the territory embraced within the state of Colorado and the territories ter-ritories of Utah New Mexico and Arizona Arizo-na and be known as the Mountain Standard Stand-ard Telephone company with a capital stock of 4000000 given exclusively in The Herald yesterday morning rather startled the business world in which telephonic tele-phonic competition will be cheerfully received re-ceived however The promoters of the new telephone enterprise are still silent regarding their future plans but several of the gentlemen yesterday admitted that the statements contained In The Herald were correct and that tho Standard company com-pany is to enter this field as it Is also to compete for business with the Bell Telephone Tele-phone company throughout the United States Canada and Mexico Just when the Mountain branch is to be Incorporated Incorporat-ed the gentlemen would not state but It I Is understood that It will not be many weeks now and that when once a public I move is made the campaign will be vigorously vig-orously inaugurated This threatened competition does not seem to bother the Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone company people a great deal and when questioned regarding the matter mat-ter yesterday afternoon President Wallace Wal-lace who was just preparing to leave for Boston this morning on a business visit stated that the company was now In a position t make a very good fight and did not propose to take any back seats For some time past the board of directors direc-tors of the company has had under advisement ad-visement a proposition to make a general reduction In the price of telephones and on Saturday a stated In The Herald on Sunday a favorable conclusion was reached the reduction in the rentals of Instruments used in the business section being 10 per cent while the residence tariffs tar-iffs were ordered reduced even more materially ma-terially with greatly improved service guaranteed These changes were decided upon Mr Wallace stated before anything any-thing was known of the prospective organization or-ganization of a local competitor and were authorized by the board for the reason that the company Is very desirous of extending ex-tending its system and making some improvements Im-provements of a very substantial and important im-portant nature These Improvements will consist mainly of double circuiting and long distance instruments The reduction Is to date back to April 1st and all patrons pat-rons who have paid for the quarter In advance ad-vance will have the difference between the old and the new rates refunded to them The new schedule was especially es-pecially In view of the fact that the general gen-eral system Is to be so materially improved Im-proved In the outside cities and towns there may not be any very material changes In the old schedules but the subscribers sub-scribers are to be given the long distance equipment and their service otherwise improved Im-proved Work on the double circuiting of every Instrument In the Park City Provo Eureka Logan Sandy Murray Bingham and other toll stations Is to commence at once and be completed at the very earliest moment in order that all outside subscribers may have the very best service at the command of the company com-pany As before stated the material reductions reduc-tions come In the double circuiting and long distance equipment This Is the best service the company Is able to furnish One other change for the better Is the neighborhood service through which several sev-eral people may club together and each secure a telephone at a greatly reduced rate even as low as 1 per annum Inasmuch In-asmuch as the operators at central control the line exclusively there will be no confusion result from the Inauguration of this service General Superintendent Murray yesterday yester-day received advices to the effect that the materials for the construction of the branch line between Helena Montana and Great Falls had just arrived and the work of building the line had commenced This extension is 105 miles In length and It Is the Intention of the company to complete com-plete It within three months The double circuiting between this city and Lehi and Ogden and Logan Is to commence within the next few days |
