THE FRANCHISE SUIT It seems that the Republicans think there is some kind of a scheme to put them in the hole onthe franchise question ques-tion and some of them are complaining complain-ing about the way the test case which is to he tried here Friday has been managed So far as is known there has been no effort on the part of the Democrats to do anything but to bring about a speedy and amicable settlement of this question There Is no desire to take advantage of any one and it will be the purpose of the Democrats to get a final decision from the supreme court before the election rolls around so that there will be no question of uncertainty as to the result It matters mat-ters little by whom the suit is brought and as it is purely a question of the construction of the enabling act it Is hardly probable that the court will care to listen to any lengthy arguments argu-ments on one side or the other because all the judges are familiar with the facts and about all the aid they will need fs the citation of authorities on The final decision will be as binding on one party as another hence the insinuation in-sinuation that this is a Democratic trick is absolutely groundless because theje is no possible advantage to be gained by either party in the trial ot this case
