Show PROVO PARAGRAPHS htYvutoIniictL HuttoiL and Elliott Exonerated A Rebuff to the Mar alial Aerrsy Personals Provo Jan 15 The city council met last veiling Jn regular session The report of the committee to inquire into the charges referred ayainst NighUvatchmen Hatton and Elliott by City Marshal Knight vas read and adopted It esonerates the night vatchmen from any wrong doing and Is coridered a rebuff to the marshal who It i seems is over zealous in his opposi ion to the night patrolmen of his force The affair haS been the foremost topic of conversation on the streets for a week and now that the arraigned are vindi ated there is talk of asking the marshal to resign If is friely asserted that it would be for the best interests of Provo for the marshal to step down and out and give room for the appointment of acme one else There is now running in full blast that which was never allowed to run during he lifeof all previous marshals viz Two faro games and other gambling devices These games are being run in violation of the city ordinances and are open and above board Are they known to the olficers I believe they are and could be impressed if the proper officials were dons do-ns theirduty There was a proposition made to light the city as before for 100 per month but the city fathers thought it too expensive in the present hard times and refused the offer when Mayor Holbrook came to the rescue and made a still better proposal He will light the city with seventeea arc tights for one year and make the city a present of the cost This was accepted amid much rejoicing Therefore m avery a-very short time there will be lights to guide the night travelers on the two main streets Center and J the full length Everybody is jubilant over the prospects of Provo assuming some of her oldtime brilliancy And there is no doubt of her forging to the front again and assum big her place among the best cities of the west All that is needed is for the clti seas to work to that end and pull for Provo first last and all the time |
