about to wind up in its usual burst of gaiety Brilliant Affair at Knutsford The brilliant event of the week la the social world was the card party given Wednesday evening at the Knutsford by Mrs Susanna Bransford Emery The entire parlor floor was thrown open and decorated by Huddart in a most attractive fashion The card tables were arranged in the red and green rooms which had been transformed into a veritable garden of flowers Pink and green were the colors chosen for the red room and green and white were used in the green room Tall palms encircled the rooms and acted as a background for the hundreds of brilliant bril-liant roses and carnations which threw out their graceful blossoms over mantels man-tels and window sills Across one corner I cor-ner of the red room was a bank of foliage plants filled in with dozens of American Beauty and Meteor roses Rising above it on either side were tall I columns of palms the whole being surmounted I sur-mounted with branches of the fuschia loaded with bloom The mantels were arranged with a solid bank of roses I filled in with palms and foliage plants and glistening among the flowers were the lights of myriads of fairy lamps The doorways were arched with asparagus aspar-agus plumosa and adorned with hanging hang-ing baskets of carnations and roses The score and tally cards were painted paint-ed for the occasion by a prominent artist of Cleveland O They were American Amer-ican Beauty heads done in water colors and tied with huge butterfly bows of i delicately shaded ribbon Each one was a work of art in itself and at the conclusion con-clusion of the game they were presented pre-sented to the ladies Des Fosses string orchestra was stationed sta-tioned in the hall and rendered a choice programme during the evening The ladies head prize a beautiful cutglass powder box mounted in silver sil-ver was won by Mrs Albert P Taylor The gentlemens first prize a silver card case by Mr Robert G Smith Mrs J Robinson
