Show FROM A W rANsnn J < POINT OF VIEW 1 The time is rapidly approaching when the Democratic party will place itself on record by adopting such measures as will cause the country to resume its wonted activity I will not b long before the various mills will be in full operation and working men who are willing to work will not have to be idle To begin with Democracy advocates and enforces free speech free press free labor and free schools We all know that where free speech prevails no abuses creep in and remain for any length of time because criticism or a severe nature will arise when any deed occurs that Is not upright I up-right or is to the prejudice of the community I commu-nity Then free speech being backed by a free press form a powerful com i bination for the press can send forth the news so rapidly that almost a soon a any event of Interest happens it is chronicled so that it Is known everywhere I every-where This is a age when dark and i i mysterious crImes cnnot take place without I with-out being unearthed at some time or other tme Then our free schools are the bulwarks I of our country They teach the children that patriotism that love of country and i that devotion to right principles which guide them through Ute s that they benefit the communities in which they live Children from homes where there is luxury and wealth and children from the humble cottage meet day after day on I the same level and listen to the same instruction I in-struction sO that pure democracy is I taught to a child on the very outset of his career Labor is the greatest factor in our regime re-gime of life I produces our wealth and also gives a healthful tone to the mind An idler ca never be happv So the importance j I im-portance of labor cannot b overestimated I overesti-mated and hence the laboring mans interests in-terests should receive due regard Democracy I De-mocracy aims to legislate so that the laboring man will be fully protected in every respect I I The property of the country has been steadily decreasing in value tor the last I I twenty years on account of the demone lr Ofa r ny ur tization t silver In the last ten years the depreciation can be rated at from 2 I I to 30 per cent This shows that the total I decrease is not less than fifty billions I The question which comes to a person i who reasons at all Isi Can we afford to i lose this sum of money in ten years or In fact in any number of years Such a I loss affects every Individual therefore it Is not at all surprising that there is such I a scarcity of money In the land For I this loss the Republican administrations I should receive credit as they were the I first to demonetize silver and treat the i country to a dose of sound money I Sound money has such a euphonious ring I Yes be sure that very dollar is without I a crack or dent of any kind then It will surely be a sound dollar At a period I when the people are on the qui vive a Ito I I-to the outcome of the greatest question I which has yet been before the world the Republicans add such a plank to their platform We proclaim our unqualified condemnation condem-nation of th uncivilized and barbarous practice well known as lynching I the people are given work to do ana I an-a fair compensation for their labor the fathers will not have to deliberate about lynching History shows that poverty I breeds crimes while prosperity lessens all tendencies which are In those directions direc-tions I people have happy homes and a reasonable amount of healthful recreation recrea-tion prisons will not have to receive so much attention Of course not all beings will become angelic even i fortune smiles but the tendency will be to go onward and upward rather than backward back-ward Having a gojd standard as their basis itis well for the Republicans to consider the barbarity of lynchings at the same time tle sae tme S Mrs RichardsVierrs 1q Franklin Si Richards who has made a thorough study ot Democratic principles gave her views on the poll gve te pl j il jq c c tical situation to a representative or The Herald as follows The money question will be the great problem for solution Our country settles but one great question at a time The tariff question is now so adjusted that it may cease to agitate the country tar years to come Meantime let the pat of Thomas Jefferson take up the money problem with that breadth and generosity gener-osity and care for the welfare of the masses which characterized the administration adminis-tration of our great party leader The Republican party has now disclosed dis-closed its true instincts and tendencies as the advocate of class rule Let us hope that the doctrine of freedom free-dom and equality as proclaimed by Jefferson Jef-ferson will prevail in our country and bring tl us such a condition of affairs that we will not have abject poverty In our midst but prosperity I will not be able to attend the coming com-ing convention at Chicago but shall feel the deepest Interest in the outcome of its deliberations The Democratic ladles are taking an active interest in the political dongs ot the day They have not as yet formed separate clubs but intend to do so At j present they are at liberty to attend the gentlemens clubs and In fact will always al-ways be welcome to do so whenever It is their wish They feel however that It would be beneficial for them to have afternoon metinKs of their own and discuss dis-cuss the state of affairs freely and fully The Democratic ladles feel that they have been treated more handsomely by their party than the Republican ladles were by theirs The Democrats had the courtesy to acknowledge that if women are voters they should be recognized aa such and hence they elected four ladles as alternates while the Republicans li not recognize the ladies at all The lady voters in the city are In the majority and usually it is supposed that the majority rules but the Republicans did not pay the slightest attention to the majority in this it followed its usual tactics However How-ever the Democrats were so courteous that this more than offsets the neglect of the opposition |
