Show SILVER S MEN TO GO 1 + 0 TO O CHICAGO I I Democratic Bimetallic Organization Organ-ization WiL Meet There Tomorrow PURPOSE OF THE POWWOW It I Will Be to Solidify the Silver Sentiment Blackburns Chances for the Xomin XoJtn ation Will Be Discussed by His Friends in the Auditorium Annex on July 1A Dig Pull Will lie Made by the Friends of the Gen tlcninn for First Place on the Ticket I WASHINGTON D C June 28 Senator Sen-ator Harris feft today for Chicago toe b to-e present at the silver conference beginning on Tuasday next under the ba auspices of the Democratic Bimetallic organization He Is I chairman of this organization and has been since it was I instituted i in this city a year ago Speaking of the purpose of the conference con-ference Senator Harris said It had been called in ordsr to afford the I silver Democrats an opportunity to compare views and look the ground over together preparatory to the on national convention and that it would probably continue daily I until the beginning of the convention con-vention He also said the meeting would not be confined to members ot the bimetallic organization but that thee would be representatives present from every state delegation friendly to silver siyer Further than this the senator declined de-clined to commit himself as to the purpose of the meeting but it is learn ed from an authoritative source that the silver Democrats regard this conference con-ference as a very important affair The organization under whose a auspices the meeting is called has been laboring in season and out of season for the promotion of the silver cause within the Democratic ranks They have had their headquarters at Senator Harris house and from that quarter have conducted cvirresivond ence with chosen representatives in all parts of the country t whom has ben trusted the organization of the sliver forces not only in every state but In every county in every state in the Union where it was considered possible to effect the LODGMENT OF A SILVER IDEA 0pg1EN YF The movement grew out of the meeting meet-ing i held at the Metropolitan hotel in this city last summer in which the planS were prepared and an executive commiMee consisting of one member from each state was appointed The work has been quietly but very thoroughly I thor-oughly performed I The purpose of the anteconvention I meeting is to so solidify the silver organization so as to render it thoroughly I thor-oughly effective in the execution of the plans of the silver leaders in the convention and t also prevent the I encroachment of the gold forces I had been their purpose to discuss the platform to be adopted and also t I consider the advisability of candidates There has been much correspondence bearing upon these two points The I plan has been to keep candidates in I the background until the conference could be held with the view of having the conference free to choose This has proved impracticable and it is undestood the leaders in the movement fear they will be unable to control in this matter as they had at one time hoped they might do They I still hone however to be practically 1 i I able to make the platform before the convention meets I |
