Show TRAIL CREEK MINES Heavy Output of the Mines of the Kootenai Region The Miner of Rossland British Columbia contains the following regarding re-garding the mines of that region The War Eagle has now only ten men stoping out and sorting ore and these men are averaging 250 tons a I week In two months time however when a portion of the development work undertaken is completed it is believed be-lieved that shipments will be made as large as those of the Le Roi On this development work there are now 45 miners employed with 25 engineers en-gineers blacksmiths and others and the progress is very rapid Since they started on the lower crosscut from the No 3 tunnel about a month ago they have driven 125 feet It is 825 feet from i the face of the crosscut to the shaft which is now down 115 feet It will be carried down to the 250foot level and the present hoisting machinery is capable capa-ble of working to the 500foot level To complete the whole of the development de-velopment work blocked out will probably prob-ably take four months but meanwhile an increase of the force working on ore will be made from time to time and the shipments increased There need therefore be no uneasiness as to the probabilities of regular dividends The mine has now paid 187000 in dividends divi-dends beside the cost of the extensive development of the mine In comparing the Rossland ores with those of the Slocan it Is always pointed out against the former that it is a very hard rock to deal with It Is a question ques-tion however if the cost of mining Is not quite as low on the War Eagle as J i 1 E in any Slocan mine In the War Eagle machine instead of hand drills are used and here there is no timbering to be done whilein the Slocan this Is a very heavy item The output of the eight miners and two ore pickers on the War Eagle is interesting as a basis for comparison The Silver Bell machinery passed I through the city today on its way out to the property The maphinery has been delayed in transit so the buildings build-ings were all ready for Its reception George A Pounder the president of the company went up to the mine to I direct the installation of the hoisting I machinery and he believes that the I I two drills will be at work by the end of the week The shaft which is now down 75 feet will be continued to the 100foot level from which a drift will be run and a crosscut made on the ledge The Silver Bell it will be remembered remem-bered has one of the best surface showings in the district but some time ago work in the shaft was suspended owing to a heavy inflow of water The men however were kept busy on the I buildings and on an excellent ore road that hasbeen made from the mine to the Red Mountain railroad I I D D Birks has returned from a visit to the Royal Gold Mining companys property on the reservation The incline in-cline shaft is now down a distance of about 50 feet and the showings continue con-tinue excellent The best ore Is found near the hanging wall though the whole shaftshows a very finelooking quartz carrying considerable iron The company now has seven men employed and is working a night shift This week another man will be sent down and work begun on the 40foot ledge on the Gold Crown of which Captain Webb in his report speaks so highly The two last assays gave total values I of 660 and 4356 respectively The shaft house on the Red Eagle is nearly completed and the machinery which has been delayed in transit is expected to arrive today In ten days it is hoped to have it in working order The crosscut tunnel is now in 60 feet and as soon as the ledge is struck an upraise will be started to the surface and then the shaft will be sunk It is intended to carry the shaft down 200 feet and to run drifts along the vein The crosscut to the north from the St Elmo main tunnel has encountered a change For the first 20 feet the crosscut was run in highly silicious ore but now a threefoot streak has i been cut which carries a high copper percentage and shows a slight improvement I improve-ment in gold values This streak averages about 6 per cent in copper The shaft on the Copper Queen I which adjoins the Mayflower on the west is down about 20 feet and is all in ore No footwall has yet been found The ore is similar in appearance to that of the Mayflower and assays up I to 65 ounces in silver and 10 In gold The present shaft will he sunk about 50 I feet when work will be started on the south vein the same ledge on which 1 the Mayflower is now working The Copper Queen belongs to the Eastern I Mining syndicate The International Gold Mining company I com-pany has purchased the Sullivan claim I for which negotiations have been going I on for some time The Sullivan is on I the creek of that name half a mile from the Columbia river and four miles I from the Trail smelter The company will start development work on the claim at once and also on their Lookout I Look-out mountain property the Snowdrop The Josie is not shipping ore now and has taken one of its machines off I ore to work in the drain tunnel that is now being run on the south side line of the mine at the 100foot level The tunnel tun-nel is being worked from both ends and has yet 30 feet to go The Le Rot tram will probably be I in operation tomorrow A great effort I has been made to get it finished before the snow was off the mountain and with the thaw of yesterday the management man-agement was pleased to know that the I tram would be readiness to take the place of the sleighs when their use will be impracticable The completion of I the tram will I make little difference I however in i the Le Roi shipments as the present shipments of between 500 I and 600 tons weekly is the full capacity I of the present shaft and machinery I The new hoisting machinery however is on the ground The huge beams are I cut out ready for erection and work on I putting it up will be begun in a few I days The Le Rot is working on a new tunnel tun-nel called the Peyton tunnel above the Black Bear and near the Josieline It is now in about 30 feet At 20 feet the lead was struck and the next ten feet is in a splendid ore body The tunnel is to be carried forward to the No2 shaft about 75 feet and in the meantime mean-time the water is to be pumped from this shaft and sinking begun The new compressor engines at the Black Bear will be started with impressive im-pressive ceremonies at 2 oclock today and the immense engine will be christened The Senator in honor of Senator Turner A company has been organized to work the Ellen mine in the Ainsworth camp This property was acquired some time ago by C F Clough Co of Spokane and the ReddinJackson company of this city and they are largely interested in the new company which is capitalized at 1000000 Th officers of the new company are K P Hogan of Spokane president and treasurer F J Walker of Rossland vicepresident C F Cloush of Spokane Spo-kane secretary and L J McAlee general gen-eral manager The Ellen is crown granted and consequently somewhat developed The showing tonsists of a vein of solid galena from 18 to SO Inches in width assaying up to 65 ounces in silver and 70 per cent in lead |
