Show THE NEW CRUSADE Burcham Harding the Apostle of S Theosophy Lectures EXPLAINS THE MOVEMENT NOW ON ITS WAY ABOUND TH WORD The Message on Its Banner Says the Lecturer Is Truth Light and Liberation For Discouraged Humanity Hu-manity He Speaks at Unity Hall Tonight Mr Burcham Harding the apostle of Theosophy delivered his lirst lecture In Salt Lake at A O IT W hall on Main street last eveningto a large audience The speaker commenced by saying that crusades had been held in past ages Each had a mystical meaning in addition I to its outer object The Quest for the Holy Grail and the crusades to liberate the Holy City had an occult meaning to those engaged In them They signified the intention of the liberation of the human soul from its captivity to bodily desres pqssions and sense gratifications The Theosophical > crusade now on its way around tne world has a kindred ob ject I carries to all races and nations natons tho message inscribed on I banner Truth Light and Liberation for Discouraged I Dis-couraged Humanity to make plain that mar is a spiritual being not merely a hungry biped in a pair of breeches as described by Carlyle and that liberation lberaton from present suffering can be found by understanding and following natures laws both physical and spiritual sDlrltual The present is a lilting epoch for this crusade for the world Is in a state of transition Certain great cycled are doe I ing and we are passing into changed con ditions A cycle of 5000 years dating from tho death of Krishna will close in bout one year from the present time I The Iron or Black Ase has ruled during this period Another cycle of 2150 years closes with this century I Is based upon I I the procession of the equinoxes At the I commencement of this cycle the sun entered the sign Pisces the fish and will shortly pass out of i into Aquarius I Time Theosophical society is endeavoring to restore a knowledge of the real the spiritual side of nature and man to correlate tha spiritual and material worlds for each has its place and rela tion to the other as cause and effect If the body and its limbs lear to follow I guidance of its spiritual inhabitant per feet harmony reigns Similarly if this world can be prepared in a fitting way the masters the divine rulers may once more return to live among us bringing an era of wisdom of peace and the highest high-est felicity The Theosophical crusade is preparing the world for this happier era I carries a message of unity and brotherhood to all nations Especially to the poor of each race has attention been given for they suffer most In periods of changing conditions The message of Hope is iroucht to the troubled telling them of the one infinite eternal spirit srevading ill things and all men and therefore in every human being Each is a temple I of the living God Tho poor troubled and unfortunate of todar > may understand that such condi finns are the result of their own deeds In past lives and they have the settled hope founded upon the divine law of justIce that the performance of present duty will bring happier conditions in future earth lives The highest duty iso I is-o carry into operation the divine law of I helpfulness the u practice of brother I hood towards all to help to be kind to others The crusade effects other work also The old fires of mysticism among those who have been devoted to the betterment better-ment of mans spiritual condition have burnt low in recent centuries These tires tres ire rekindled and made to glow and burn brightly bringing unseen but very powerful forces into operation whose operaton work will appear later I The Theosophical crusade held its first meeting last June in Boston Mass the next at New York in Madison Square Garden theatre upon the eve of sailing for Europe In England Ireland and Scotland the leading cities were visited public meetings held and vast numbers Hocked to hear the message brought by the crusaders In London Liverpool and Dublin brotherhood suppers were given to thousands of poor people The pangs of hunger being satisfied the message I mes-sage of brotherhood and Its meaning was Is implanted in their hearts by short talks I The poor listened eagerly and welcomed the novel idea that there exist those who can be kind without asking anything in I return and those whose only request Is i be allowed to help them France Holland Sweden Germany Italy Austria and Greece were visited meetings were held and great enthusiasm aroused Near Athens were found 5 Arrrenan refugees living in tents 5n sjead of a brotherhood supper the rconev was expended in blankets which were received with heartfelt gratitude At all meetings Old Glory is unfolded on the platform Each country has presented pre-sented its banners to the crusaders They thus bear the Hag of every country not to set them against each other but to unify them in a bond of fraternity This I Is Americas mission i At Athens formerly home of Plato and Pythagoras thousands flocked to the meetings and the old mystic fires rekindled with new vigor The crusaders next visited ancient Egypt so full of occultism in bygone centuries Here I great work was done the results will be apparent in this country in coming year From Egypt they took ship to India and vU l continue their travels to Australia China and Japan returning to this coun try via San as closely as the fingers of a glove The great lodge of masters whose work they are doing give them force and energy I S and they carry the united support of all Theosophists This Is no pleasure trip for the work is incessant often throe meetings and speeches n day halls to be engaged arrangements made so difficult in countries where foreign languages are spoken Night and day are occupied Probably no more arduous occupation could be devised I Traveling and other expenses are provided pro-vided by the crusaders but mainly by contributions from members of the Theosophical The-osophical society Each donates what may be possible Some have pledged a certain cer-tain sum ner month others send contribution con-tribution and nil have been provided with littlejjores for purple pence intended In-tended to receive daily donations There are no millionaires behind this movement but it is supported by the mites of all the result of dally selfdenials The strength lIes in the united support and constant thought of all sending floods of assistance along mental channels and receiving it back In increased amount Upon the crusaders return to this country coun-try the foundation stone will be laid of the school for the revival of the lost mysteries of antiquity The importance of ths Is great j Plato and Pythagoras derived their knowledge through Initiation Into the mysteries The knowledge which they thus derived existed long before their time and served also for the establishment establish-ment of the schools of the Magi This knowledge reached us by way of Egypt i and Chidden It was the combined result re-sult of milleniums of research into the mysteries of nature by wise men trained adepts who by selfconquest and evolu tion had advanced to higher places and tested their knowledge by actual experience experi-ence Not only has most of the wisdom thus acquired become lost to the outer world but the very method by which if was obtained Is now practically un known so that very few persons In this age believe that either such wisdom or the process of its attainment ever existed ex-isted This knowledge was never revealed re-vealed to time profane for It gave immense power for either good or evil to its possessors pos-sessors It was recorded in symbol parable para-ble and allegory requiring a key for Its interpretation The symbols and ceremonies of Freemasonry Free-masonry were originally derived from the more ancient mysteries as all who have traveled the burning sands know The ritual and ceremonies signs and passwords pass-words have been preserved with great fidelity but the real key has long been lost waiting for future generations to discover it True Masonry and the ancient wisdom are virtually the same Each Is founded on the brotherhood of man The lost key and the true philosophy can be found and will be placed within the reach of all those who unselfishly desire and work for the possessions Masonry by glyph and ceremony dramatically represents the progress of the neophyte in the degree de-gree of his initiation It is only by the union of time speculative and the operative or the philosophical and the symbolic or actual that the real meaning and intent of cither can be realized the masters word recovered and tho ancient glory be restored Such a result has now be law The mas come possible under cyclic I ters are ready and htve issued their orders or-ders It remains for us to take notice thereof and accept their offer of help This is a privilege that has not come to mankind during many a weary milleniuir of Ignorance and strife Those who feel the sore need and appreciate the opportunity oppor-tunity wilt respond gladly and it has already been demonstrated that the great work will bo done No return is promised prom-ised to individual subscribers The school must not only be built but endowed in order to secure its efficiency and permanency per-manency That the time Is ripe for time establishment of the school is fully proved by the spontaneous subscription of 10600 in cash and 13000 in architectural engineering en-gineering electrical and other work at New York on April 2G and 27 in response to a public call made for this purpose The Theosophical crusade Is thus designed de-signed to carry to all races themessage of brotherhood and to lay the foundations for bringing to the world a knowledge of divine wisdom out of which must grow peace happiness contentment and a new era of enlightenment for discouraged hu nmaniti Mr Harding speaks tonight at Unity hall |
