Show SHtlDON JACKSON COllfGE INSTITUTION WILL SOON HAVE 8200000 Two Buildings Will Probably Be Erected Next YearDr Gordon Pleased With the Outlook Rev Thomas Gordon of Washington D C financial agent of the Sheldon Jackson college is still in the city and will return home the present week His H-is greatly pleased with the city and states that It Is the only place of anj size whose streets bear any comparison with those of his own city He yesterday yester-day Stated that within a few years valuable val-uable estates in Washington have been bequeathed to the board of home missions mis-sions of the PresbyterIan church This board turned the properly over to the Irustees of the Sheldon Jackson college col-lege and Mr Gordon was made the financial agent and his visit to this city has been to confer with the Sheldon Shel-don Jackson Irusteee relative to the new Institution In addition to the estate already mentioned in these columns and which is estimated to be worth 70000 the new institution will have a oneseventl inlerest in two other properties In Washington each of which Is worth 150000 Added to these are other bequests be-quests which after some legacies are paid will give the trustees of Sheldon Jackson college about 200000 Some idea of the value of the various va-rious bequests may be gained said Mr Gordon when it is stated that the income now being received is 12 percent per-cent upon the valuation of the property prop-erty It Is proposed to use the income as it may accrue for the erection of buildings and payment of salaries without selling that at least which is most valuable The literary and scientific department depart-ment which is now being maintained at the Collegiate Institute will be continued con-tinued In that Institution another year when it is expected that a building will be erected and also a structure for the proposed school of mines Other departments such as law medicine etc will be added as exigencies may demand The present faculty consists of three instructors Dr McNiece Professor Sweezy and Miss Anna Murphy and the board of trustees are now in communication com-munication with two educators in the east with a view of securing their services thus having five Instructors in the faculty One meeting of the board of trustees has been held since Mr Gordons arrival ar-rival and another has been called for Tuesday June 20 I |
