Show summery ot of missionary labors some time ago we received from E ider elder henry stable who is is laboring in I 1 north carolina a copy of the report he made at the north carolina conference held last august of his la labors borsand and travels for the past year but have never been able to print it until now beloved brethren rl I feel un der obligation ll 11 to comply with the rp request mady by our wor worthy thy and esteemed president elias kirn ball to submit an itonery of myself since we codyre congregated R aam atm in a conference capacity at alt olive north carolina a year ago last july while in that assemblage assemble ge we indeed enjoyed a spiritual feast and I 1 was promoted to the meter bic ship and assigned to moore and mont montgomery gainery counties ac companied companies compa nied by elder harrington to re canvass same distributing literature of books holdin holding 0 of lon long 0 series of meetings the same was accomplished in every burg hamlet village and city Ali migrating grating g in di direction ion of said counties with elders stohl and carlisle co laborers of randolph county with the consent of pres hubbard while we vre were together I 1 accompanied E elder ider previous mentioned county for a period of three or jour four weeks on one occasion we held a series of fifty meetings in a single week resulting C in much good but future experience proved that holding meetings so frequently overtaxed the people causing the gospel to become mo no and wearisome weary some to them experience suggested the following plan to be the most effectual go into a city or burg get out appointments for ten or fifteen meetings a week or ten days and fulfill them then return again in course of six or el eight lit weeks and reiterate the constituent parts of to 0 43 gospel in a systematic order beginning with what the gospel is better results followed an opportunity is given for discussing discussion the truths uttered and reflecting upon the same game and on returning you have the honest in heart separated from the ungodly as they know the true shepherd s voice and will not follow another I 1 found that going into a town or village and holding bold aig probably three or four meetings the first say on the subject of faith and then jumping jumpie g to the gathering of israel and so on and then returning again in in a week or ten days and repeat repeating ini in like manner this conglomeration of heterogeneous mixtures that it will prove derogatory and detrimental to the glorious work of the gospel likewise will the holdin holding 0 of more than ten or fifteen meetings a week result at the expiration of the four weeks elder harrin harrington ton and myself commenced to lal labor or in montgomery county calling on municipal officers ministers and editors we subscribed for the local loca papers and made great efforts to obtain places pla ces to hold meetings we began work in said county in the in manner anner previously described and much good god was done thus we wrought assiduously and perseveringly to together ether harmonizing in all things until the of nov 1896 when elder harring ton departed for home I 1 continued to labor in like manner in said counties with elder williams of salt lake city we ive worked faithfully shouting re pen tance and baptising baptizing bap for the remission of sins and through our integrity to the councils of god in observing strictly the word of wisdom our fast days paying our tithes to the conference president attending our devotions regularly and punctually traveling without purse or scrip absolutely and st striving rivin to keep ourselves immaculate and unsophisticated from everything that is contaminable and impure obeying M the instructions of those placed over us in every particular IV we have been blessed insomuch that we have been ablo able to discharge the duties that are en upon an E elder I 1 of israel to perform and since july 1896 our report has registered the following miles walked families visited 59 families revisited rejected to testimony of elders 1 refused entertainment 25 tracts distributed books sold 24 books given away 77 books loaned 14 meetings held chal children blessed 20 baptisms 39 gospel conversations 1085 also organized three flourishing sunday schools established two branches viz red hill located at eril mill montgomery county with m membership ember ship of nineteen active workers and the cameron branch with forty six energetic members and to close labor in said counties erected a very commodious church building which was completed on august 1897 at cameron moore county north carolina |
