Show Congressman Nelson Dingley Dies at Washington I 4 1 DEATH WAS PEACEFUL AND WITHOUT PAIN 1 t 1 4 Caused By Heart Failure Resulting From Attack of Pneumonia S S f Strong Hopes of His Recovery Had Been Entertained But He was Unable Un-able to Rally From JHs Extreme WeaknessSketch of His Career From School Teacher to Republican Repub-lican Leader Declined a Position S In tha Cabinet f Washington Jan I3Hon Nelson Dingley of Maine leader of the Republican Repub-lican side on the floor of the house of representatives died here tonight at 1030 clock of heart failure resulting from extreme weakness due to pneumonia pneu-monia He was unconscious during most of the day and death came quietly quiet-ly without consciousness being re giuneu AU ne mumuers uj ama tam ily were at his bedside To within a I few hours before his death the family I I firmly believed as it has throughout i his illness that Mr Dingley would recover re-cover While the past few days haves given t greiit hope of recovery the progress prog-ress of the disease had made the patent dangerously weak and had seriously affected his heart Late lost night and again this morning Mr Dingley had a bad sinking spell from which he slightly slight-ly rallied There were further evidences of heart failure as the day progressed and the strongest stimulants were administered ad-ministered but without effect He failed perceptibly during the afternoon and as night came hope was abandoned aban-doned Mrs Dingley is very much prostrated pros-trated by her Husbands death and is now under the care of physicians Mr Dingley had spent all of the past sixteen years of his life Avhen his con c gressionai uuues caiiea mm 10 > ViSfl ington at the Hamilton House He occupied oc-cupied rooms on the second floor and had with him his wife and daughter the sons being here but little Representative Dingleys illness dated back to Dec 29 The physician diagnosed diag-nosed his case as one of grip so commonly com-monly prevailing hete and cautioned the patient to keep his room The following fol-lowing Saturday pneumonia developed in the left lung complicated with great irregularity of the heart The funeral will be conducted in th < house of representatives on Monday next The body will be taken to tl house at 10 oclock and there lie i state until noon when sev s will b conducted in the presence of the IOUF and ssnate At 420 in the afternoon the funeral party will lea fr rile r-ile arriving there at 2 cvcTck Tus day afternoon Further srvices TI be held at the family re Jcne in Le iston on Wednesday afternoon The interment in-terment will be in that cty In speaking of Mr DInglei death tonight to-night Senator Hale said In the pre ent condition of public i affairs Mr Dingeys death is a great national lee On all questions relating to fmanee t the revenues of the country and to aI justment of great fiscal questions Mr Dingley was above all ether in authority author-ity It difficult to say u ho can takf his place He had the conifil nce of h associates in the house the confident of the senate the confidence of tT I > president and the confidence of the o v tire country |
