candidates He had scarcely r scarce-ly arrived at his hotel when a delegation delega-tion from Levan put In an appearance and insisted on his accompan ing them to their town and makIng a speech there during the afternoon After a hurried 1uncI1 the delegation together with several of the county candidates started for Levan where arousing a-rousing reception was given Ir Roberts Rob-erts he being the first r ally live congressional con-gressional candidate who has so far visited their thriving little city Mr Roberts had only time to shake off the desert dust after his 16mile ride and eat a hasty supper when the committee here waited upon him to escort him to the tabernacle where he found the spacious building already filled with an expectant ass mblage and the band keepIng the crowd in good humor After being introduced by Chairman Carter of the precinct Democratic committee I mittee lIr Roberts began an earnest and eloquent review of the position of the two great parties on the financIal question He showed by facts and ures that the Democratic partY was the part that was in fayor of the peoples peo-ples money gold and silver He read numerous extracts from otficial publications publica-tions showing that the course of the Republican party for the past quarter of a centur favored the single standard stand-ard or gold as the mone of the peo pIe and that the polley given out that Hon B H Hoberts and J 1isher Harris would expound Democratic Demo-cratic dnctrines here this afternoon although al-though the time was brief before noon it is safe to sa it was knowl by every inhabitant from one end of the town to the other that the blacksmith orator ora-tor and the idol of the young Democracy Democ-racy would honor our town with th ir presence Shortly before 2 oclock a cavalcade as seen approaching in the distance and soon drew up at the tabernacle taber-nacle where a great gathering had t ready assembled It was something of a isappolntment to learn that Hon Fisher Harris had not come for he has I many warm personal friends here but the welcome was not less warm and spontaneous for the congressional nom i inee who was received with cheer upon cheer After the preliminaries Mr Roberts I t was introduced and for an hour and a 1a f he eloquentl reYiewed the t cial question he showed logically and L conclusively that it was to the interest of all classes the farmer the wage worker both the producer and the cant can-t sumer that this country should adopt the bimetallic standard and that the Ii only hope for free silver and prosperity was
