county assessor reported he had appointed N T porter a deputy asses sor for davis county the appointment was affirmed an ordinance providing za for rewards for the destruction of sparrows gophers and coyotes was presented by the county attorney and on motion of commis lioner ier parker the ordinance was passed by commissioners fisher and parker voting aye to philander Phi laUder hatch was appointed a delegate to the trans aisis sapp congress to be held at salt lake city beginning ca july 1897 the matter of filling the vacancy in the board of county commissioners ners was taken up and considered si kershaw was appointed a county commissioner for davis county to fill the vacancy caused by the re resignation of 0 al layton adjourned to monday may 24 1897 at 10 a in m session held may 1897 at 10 a in the clerk reported kershaw had filed his approved bond as provided bylaw by law mr kershaw was duly acknowledged as a county commissioner of davis county J L fackrell county surveyor reported he had appointed thomas Ili omas IL phillips Phu lips deputy county surveyor the appointment was confirmed J L fackrell asked for the privilege of being 0 absent from the state for ninety days on motion the request was Z granted P P willey county collector of davis county asked permission to be absent from the state during the months of april and may 1897 the request was granted the clerk was authorized and instructed to procure si six xe stray pound records for the use of the constables who have no such records the road and other districts over which C al layton was committee was assigned to kershaw A communication from lamoni call city councilman of bountiful city asking that the commissioners bear a portion of the expense of putting in a culvert near mrs airs Thur goods was read and laid over till next session to be considered in connection with the claim for said expense A communication from AL A B cook representing the D S cook estate representing that a right of way cabbe can bo had for a road through the lands of said estate from near george kendells along the side hill on condition that the roads running through the lands of said estate oa the bench be abandoned and the county build and maintain a fur wire fence on each side of the proposed road was read and referred to commissioner parker to negotiate for the right of way for a money consideration the clerk was instructed to notify the sheriff to be in attendance at each session of the county commissioners the county attorney filed an opinion in relation to the countes coun tys authority to assign a tax sale certificate the opinion Is adverse to the county authority to assign such certificates the law pro vides that a mortgagee may re deem land sold for taxes and add tile the cost of redemption to the mortgage on motion the petition of the utah mort mortgage age loan corporation asking that the county make an assignment of a certain tax sale certificate to protect its lien on the premises was denied as the law protects their lien by the redeeming of the land from tax sale joseph S miller appeared before the court and complained that the waters from steed creek were flooding portions of walker lane and asked that the same be abated the matter was referred to commissioner kershaw the supervisor of road district no 17 was present and he was instructed to take no action in relation to having havin 0 the fences removed from highway no 15 little F port ort lane until after next session sion of the court the minutes were read and approved adjourned sine die |
