the west and northwest and more reported doing at Southern Mississippi Mis-sissippi valley points and In the east but the volume ot business In wools and dry goods In the latter section Is rather smaller than expected Early reports of large business doing during August are confirmed by aggregates of monthly bank clearings which show unprecedentedb large totals for that month little below Indeed the Immense Im-mense monthly aggregates of last wInter wIn-ter Reports from the Iron and steel trade are in a high degree favorable the tonnage movement being unpre cedentedly large and the line of prices firm at the advances recently recorded Business In steel Is exceptionally large and In the west particularly the out pu Is limited only bj the ability of the mllls to keep up with orders The western crop situation remains practically prac-tically unchanged cash wheat being lower on a rather larger movement of sDrlDl wheat but an active demand for export has furnished sustaining power I I Corn has been ruled by the weather In surplus producing states which Is dry and hot with a steadying effect on price The close of the cotton year finds the prIce of that staple slightly firmer on reports of damage bj rain to the crop In the south Atlantic i At-lantic states From other parts of the south however crop reports continue I quIte favorable and a yield at least I I equal to
