Show HANNA EXPLAINS I Soldier Ate Freely of Bananas Drank Too Much Beer and Pop Cleveland Ohio Sept 2Senar M A Hanna has returned to Cleveland after a months outing In the Yellowstone Yellow-stone park and northwest In the course of an interiew concerning the reported sufferings In army camps Mr Hanna said r do nOt care to place the blame for the conditions upon anyone I wi say however that the governors of the different dif-ferent states appointed the volunteer officers and we find that the illness among the troops comes from the volunteer vol-unteer ranks The places for the location lo-cation ot the camps were selected because be-cause of their avnlablty and the gen erl climatic conditions Regular troops have been camped by the side of the volunteers and no sickness among them I do not wonder won-der that the death rate ha been high in some instances Several times I visited vis-ited Ca1p AIHer and looked carefully over the place At the edge or the camp I found banana stands and places where beer and pop and such stuff were sold to the troops This kind of stuff never helped the YQlun teems teelsLook Look at the task which has been performed by the administraton At the outbreak of the war there was provision for but 250 men I am acquainted ac-quainted personally with the heads of the war department and l am positive they worked from 16 to 18 hours each day to equip and arm this great army of 25000 or 300000 men The whole affair af-fair seems marvelous to me and could not have been accomplished l tny other nation in the world Flme wir ale partment had a most stupendous task > 0 > j3 I before I and it was equal to the i emergency |
