| Show JER MR SNED S STATEMENT ST MENT To T the Editor of The Herald In Sundays Herald I aee ee an article accompanying an account of a monument monument ment erected by Mr D Davidson to William Calder in which are state statements ments I feel compelled to answer answer The article says As the story was told by the David Davidson Davidson son family three weeks before the day set for tor the marriage of Miss Agnes Davidson on and Captain Smith Dr enticed the girl giri into lato his of office office fice and by means of drugs accomplished her ruin The family naturally altar learning ing the facts fac l were intensely bitter toward the doctor He was warned not to come upon the premises Over this affair the doctor and Cap tain Smith had words and aDd Ute the latter slapped ped In the face Bad blood existed Isted among all concerned and the tragedy was wu but the natural cul culmination culmInation Before the shooting Dr went to City Marshal Burt and told him of the accusation and said there was no truth in it After Arter the shooting Miss a 1 Davidson Da denied it The state statement ment is made that was wu sit sitting ting in the other end of the car With Without WIthout out warning he suddenly arose aro e and opened fire with a revolver At the first shot Captain Smith fell feU The sec second second ond bullet aimed at n the girls father pierced the side of the car Before he could again pun pull the trigger Officer Ot Calder sprang forward and grabbed his hand The third shot pierced Calders sleeve but was disarmed There was but one shot fired by Dr and after that Smith who had threatened to kill on sight had advanced to within a few feet teet of ot him with his hand band on his hip pocket Dr was then disarmed by Of Officer Off f er Calder and turned with his back to Smith when the tu two o shots were fired by Smith both striking him in the back and aDd killing him almost in instantly Yours respectfully L C |
