Show notes from lewiston utah today has been a red letter day in the history of this tin s quiet healthful and thriving district 1 by the dedication of our new school house some years ago the idea of building a church college was talked up and a number of the leading men of the ward donated quite fj freely eely work wasl vigorously pushed junail jun til the foundation was laid when all at once the came to a standstill leaving a large amount of building ma aerial on the ground there it alt all lay for about two years subject to the destruction exerted jy by the element glement this last fall the trustees of the lewiston school district bought out the college site and the material for one half the original cost the contract was let and a beautiful structure now adorns the town the building as it was dedicated i today has cost the district about and the trustees estimate that that it would have cost had biad the material and labor jabor been paid for at the ruling prices of ofa a year or two ago the building contains COnt aiDS two rooms each feet feel and alid an entrance feet partitioned off in cloakrooms etc the building as is well lighted and arranged for ventilating last friday the school children and their frieds had the te pleasure of dancing 0 in the new building the younger chidden cli idren making good ne of the floor during the afternoon and the older ones during tiring I the night this morning mornine morn inc at ten tell the building was crowded to overflowing by parents and children to witness the the dedication of tle tale building wm first counselor to the bisop of the ward offered the dedicatory payer addresses were made by each of the trustees the principal the bishop and several others songs and recitations were furnish ed by the school children the schools of lewiston district have not been successfully taught for a num berof years this year has brou brought bt on entire change the present teachers have gained the confidence and affections s pf af the children and the result is good I 1 I 1 schools I 1 J educational matters were ventilated freely in td ys exercises and the cause of education has thus received another impetus much credit is due IC 11 II uund riek iek who has had the im mediated su supervision pervis on of the building as alsoto also to bishop W II 11 lewis who lias has manifested a lively interest andai ven a helping hand ban d in every possible way the bishop stated in his remarks that the doeple of le Lewis the last few years ba have put six ty shand dollars into i a canial cani canaly tl which brings a good lyof v of water from the cub river they have paid for the temple for the Taher tabernacle nacle or for a meeting house now forthe for the school houseye sides responding t to 0 many other calls continually this is one of the best grain producing districts of the country last years product is estimated at bushels wheat predominating that eliat is fully forty per cent less than the usual crop the falling failing off was caused byjoe by the very dry weather a year bao ago last fall the present outlook is as a 9 good as it ever has been we had bad sowe some good soaking rains early in the fall a and pd thousands of acres of green fields could be seen before the falling of the snows which now protect them from the elements the winter lias has been unusually larm warm thus far and ami the fall of isnow in the valley valle yi has been light pe people 0 who work in the mountains report heavy storms and t the he bains are fast fil filling lillo up tip with willi the esary water supply for another season thus we are assured that tili this a olice once despret county shall ligal again forth in its strength ng at if ina and golden harvest shall fill the gi of the to oven I 1 I 1 1 I 1 PAR I 1 na 11 |
