| Show the university and college the question stion of the advisability of uniting the university and the agricultural Colle college n cre has bits been before the people a of f utah for some time and pretty thoro thoroughly ugly 0 discussed and the growing t sentiment seems lo 10 be that it would be very much to the interests of rill all concerned to have them united into one grand institution of learning learnine several of the members of both houses of the legislature Lei slature do not hesitate in saying that they will be united tini ted As the matter of union is pretty well decided upon the next important tant question that confronts us is that of location where shall the university be located is the question this can only be decided by weighing the adv advantages advantages antares 0 that the different localities have to offer this aliis institution and by choosing the locality that hag the most this is an institution that is destine to stand for years and years to come and if the ad addan van in the way of climate soil etc offered in any one locality are far superior to those in any other the losses in the way of buildings already erected which would have to be abandoned or SOW sold at a low price would realy be insignificant 0 wt as compared to the great amount of good that would result from such a ch oice of la cation the doeple of our territory being principally engaged in agriculture 0 mining a and stock raising it becomes very important that a location be selected where the climate and soil are favorable for experiments to be made and where these branches of industry can be taught successfully we have been doine 7 some very unscientific farming in this territory during the years that we have lived here and thereby millions of dollars have been lost A very suitable la cation for the university it seems to us would be on the tract of land located par partly aly in centreville Cen treville and partly in bountiful about one mile north of the bountiful tabernacle any number of acres from down could be had and it is of all kinds of soil flowing wells could be had in abundance at a small expense also mountain water could be secured the climate is excellent for ill all kinds of agricultural products and cannot be surpassed for an experiment me nt station anywhere in utah this point is between the capital of the territory and the next largest city the two cities contain about one third of the population of our territory the people living north east baet and south could easily reach it there being excellent railroad facilities students from salt lake could attend the school as cheaply as if it were located at fort douglas or any of salt lake city in regards to board the students could board as cheap here abany as anywhere |
