| Show resources of the basin As not all of our readers lave have been favored with an opportunity to visit the northern portion of our county it might be well to state what IL a visitor noticed in that region the locality visited is in steed precinct and was formerly designated as the basin the locality derived its name for the physical features of the ground resembling in shape those of a basin mr peoples s who resides I 1 in n that vicinity was looked up lie 11 e in informed tile the writer that he bad resided there for upwards of three years A stroll around his garden showed that the soil is well adapted for fruit trees arid and small fruits ripe strawberries were noticed on the vines the trees appeared very thrifty mr bin peeples is paying a great deal of attention to the growing of fruit trees and his labors will without a doubt be crowned with success on looking t around a little longer the writer was war convinced that the basin is a great place for strawberries for he be noticed four acres in one patch and several smaller pieces justin grover mrs bl itchell liell and others have fine orchards started there is also considerable lucern grown which yields remarkably w well ell the writer was informed that the country had brately changed since the weber aud and davis co canal had been completed wells that were fifty eight feet deep now dow have water within fifteen feet of the surface and in some districts springs may be seen where the ground was parched a few years ago ago t it being only six miles to ogden city which is a good market many of the people have gone to raising fruit and vegetables durbin terry showed the writer around in his grape patch which had deen set out about a year ago the vines looked fine and some of them had as high as twenty clusters of buds on them it was wag also learned from him that there had bad been a break in the canal and it was thought the far farmers mers would be deprived of the water for a few days the basin or hooper as its post office is called was vas first settled about eighteen years ago by justin grovern G Gro rover verP P P terry and chancey hadlock |
