Show WILL RESisT THE CUT I U P Union Workmen Are Preparing for a Fight Governor West and Party Going to tho Fair R G IV Complimentary E iouRaUway Notes It was learned from a prominent member mem-ber of one of the railway organizations yesterday that the six great organizations on the Union Pacific have combined to resist re-sist the cut in wages on that road The f organizations are the Brotherhood of Locomotive Lo-comotive Engineers Brotherhood of Locomotive Lo-comotive Firemen Brotherhood of Railway Rail-way Trainmen Order Railway Conductors Conduc-tors Switchmens Mutual Benefit Association Asso-ciation of America and Order of Railroad Telegraphers At times in tho past each one has struck and when that was done the road was greatly erabarassed during the continuation of the strike It may well be imagined that i all the organizations organiza-tions should strike at the same time the road would be blocked for more than the proverbial year and a day This is tho first time they have been united in a common resistance to any railway and it may mean that a permanent unity will be effected The associations however are not inclined in-clined to be unreasonable in their opposition opposi-tion to the reduction The joint committee com-mittee of the men and the company met in Omaha yesterday and from a prominent prom-inent member of one of the associations it was learned that the railroad was given to understand that this cut i made only temporary would be submitted to but 1 the company docs not make some agreement agree-ment to return to the old scale at some definite future time there will be a strike Acting on this determination the representatives of the organizations have submitted two propositions for the consideration ot the company The first is that the men will lend the company 10 per cent of their wages until such time as they can be paid in full without manifest mani-fest inconvenience The second is that the cut shall go into effect now and a return re-turn be made to the old scale on the 1st of next January The Union Pacific officials seem to regard the second with much favor and will probably make an agreement agree-ment on that basis In any event a compromise com-promise will be made as the company is not likely to provoke what must prove the greatest railroad strike ever inaugurated |
