| Show St JIarya Academy Sixteen years ago there was established in Salt Lake an institution of learning of which every citizen of Salt Lake has reason rea-son to be proud Although tho beginning i was small through tho patience industry and hard work of those connected with it it stands t day an ornament to the city and a credit to modern progress Last year an extensive addition was made to too building l and during the present vacation the building is belnsr remodeled The partitions par-titions are being changed so as to enlarge some departments tee walls aro receiving a fresh coat of paint and whitewash the floors ore being freshly oiled and many other improvements made The Mother Superior was waited upon by a HERALD reporter to whom she proudly showed the building and spoke enthusiastically ol the plans and work for the coming year Tho old study room has been changed into a dormitory and a new study room larger and better lighted provided in the new addition Also the kitchen and dining room in tho basement have been enlarged so as to furnish accommodations for the Increased numbers A specialty is made of the work in the music and art departments Tho best teacher that can be found are procured for these branches Musical instruments of almost avery sort are furnished for the use of the students Eighteed pianos are placed > in separate rooms In a wing or the building so that pupils in practice do not interfere with each other or disturb those studying in the main building Spacious apartments aro furnished in the basement > for recreation gymnastics and calesthentics Back of the building are large and spacious grounds well shaded laid out in walks and drives with seats iroviaed in the shade for the use of the students A corps of twenty competent teachers insures each student all necessary care and oversight I is the purpose of the institution institu-tion to give thosoplaced under its charge a nearly as possible a home The school is especially for girls and young ladies but boys between the ages of six and eight years are received also A commercial course has been provided for the coming year and special attention i will be paid to that department Bookkeeping Book-keeping shorthand and stenography will be taught according to the latest methods While the school Catholic it receives pupils of every religious creed or none all and all it requires is that every pupil attend at-tend the religious exercises of the school No creed is taught unless it is so desired by the parents The building is a solid brick structure three stories in height with basement situated in a quiet part of the city and but a short distance from tile business center The fall term commences September 7 A large attendance is expected No better proof of the excellent work done by the school can be given than the constantly I increasing attendance |
