Show I I3IisIMss U S AND MINING I i I v Silver Meeting Held in the First Ward RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED Speeches Made by a Number ot Citi S zens A Noted TSastorn Manufacturer Says That Salt Lake Is the Liveliest City in the West Cloarinsrs and Heal Estato TransfersMining Notes The residents of the First municipal ward held a mass meeting last evening in the Liberty Park Methodist church in the interest of silver A M Musser presided pre-sided and in his introductory remarks said that the silver question was one which interested not only the west and the silver producing states but the whole country America is large enough and powerful enough to stand by herself in this matter and needs not to consider the actions of any foreign country He considered con-sidered the demonetization of silver the cause of the low prices prevailing in nearly every article of produce and that with silver restored to its proper place as money we should enjoy prosperity all around E G Hunt thought that with the re monetization of silver general confidence would be restored The American people were ever quick to notice any erroneous or bad legislation and the legislation which dpmonetized silver was bad and must be corrected W C Young and W M Griffith made a few remarks in favor of remonetization of the white metal E W Tatlock Joseph Booth W F Giesy Simon F Mackie and Samuel E Allen were appointed committee to draft resolutions and presented the following which was enthusiastically accepted Resolved That the citizens tbe First ward of Salt Lake city in mass meeting assembled believe that it is to the best interest of our country that silver be fully and completely remonetized and instruct the officers of this meeting to transmit this resolution to our delegate to Congress for presentation to that body and assuring him of our cordial support in the use of all proper means to secure such needful legislation Simon F Mackie gave a short address on panics and their causes and attributed the present financial depression to the appreciation of gold and the consequent depreciation of silver and nearly every commodity of commerce At the conclusion of the addresses a club was organized called the First Ward Silver club AM Mnsaer was elected president E W Tatlock vicepresident W M Griffith secretary and M Carter treasurer About fifty of those present signed tho membership roll and it was resolved that the organization meet every Monday evening at 8 oclock to promote the interests of silver For the present the meetings will be held in the Liberty Park Methodist church |
