Show RGT IUCH UI 0 F A SHOT i k i 1 i I r I e Frank Bateman Fires Thrice at 1 His New B ro t herm L aWe it j WEDDING AND A EIGHT I I b 1 An Ogden Hotel the Scene of the 1 Combat How Ida Ientz Married n California and What followed When Her Brother f Appeared Two Incorrigible Girls j Xcns of the Territory I i OGDEN March 30About three months I I nrro Frank E Bateman a young Californian I i fornian came to Ogden from San Francisco Fran-cisco and secured work on one of the local papers there being then two His tJ journalistic ability proved to be not very I extensive and consequently his newspaper newspa-per career was much curtailed For sometime some-time past he has been living on the Lentz farm in VTilsona Lane and this morning accompanied by Miss Ida Lentz an adopted daughter of the family appeared before County Clerk Ledwidge and requested re-quested a marriage license Both applicants appli-cants being of age the clerk issued the license and later in the day Rev Frye of the Methodist church performed the marriage mar-riage ceremony The young couple took rooms at the Central hotel after the ceremony cere-mony and gave it out that they did not k desire to see any visitors THE BROTHER APPEARS About 230 oclock this afternoon James M Lentz brother of the bride entered the office of the hotel and while the clerks attention was attracted elsewhere else-where examined the register ana went up stairs Knocking on the door of the room occupied by Bateman and his bride Lentz demanded the return of his mothers picture He received the reply k that Mrs Bateman did not have the picture 7 pic-ture and promptly called the cirl a liar With considerable promptness Estonian opened the door collared his brotherin I law and endeavored to eject him from the premises Lentz broke away hovever and tried to edge by the bridegroom of but a few hours and into the room i A POOR SHOT Bateman then drew a32calibre revolver frr and fired three shots at Lentz all of which flew very wide of their mark I They had the effect however of driving Lentz from the hotel Bateman was arrested and held in 500 bonds by Justice Gaboon of the police court This evening ho was released on his own recognizance It seems that Mrs Bateman inherits jointly with Lentz the estate of Mrs Lentz who died recently valued at 5000 and the brother objected to anyone any-one but himself having the management of the property There may have been other reasons for the rupture all of which will probably be made public as Bateman threatens to have L ntz arrested on a multiplicity of charges BARTCE NOT WASTED Several numerously signed petitions have been prepared by the people of the i Second judicial district asking that Judge i James A Miner be transferred from the Fourth to the Second district They setout set-out that under existing circumstances they are unable to secure a hearing of I half the cases which come within the jurisdiction of the court of their district I Bartch is not wanted they say i One thousand pounds of armor plate for I the battleship Oregon loaded on two I fiat cars went west tonight YOU G AND INCOEElGIBIiE Judge Miner will be asked tomorrow to commit Anna Peterson aged 12 and Rose Peterson aged 10 to the reform school The little girls have been leading a terrible life living with tramps near the Utah I orthern crossing of the Ogden river ar I the police picked them up there early this r orning Their parents par-ents can do nothing with them I |
