Show REMEDIAL LEGISLATION The Policy of the Administration Is Clearly Defined WASHINGTON Sept 5The financial policy of the administration was clearly defined today It is that all secondary financial legislation be postponed till the Senate acts on the repeal bill The committee on banking and cur recny tjj which falls the duty t originate legislation to follow repeal met this morning but adjourned for a week It is learned that the President and Secretary Carlisle have expressed a wish that all remedial legislation be postponed post-poned til the repeal bill has actually II actu-ally passed the Senate There is no doubt the committee intends to follow I this suggestion The object is to put spurs on the Senate by concentrating public attention on it The House will keep the road clear for immediate consideration I con-sideration of repeal as soon as it comes I from the Senate During the meeting of the Senate committee com-mittee on Finance this morning there was an informal discussion of the policy to be pursued with reference to measures now before the Senate which has been reported re-ported by this committee Senator Voor hees announced his determination to push the repeal bill as rapidly possible possi-ble and indicated that this would be done at least for the present without reference to other bills which the committee had under consideration This is taken to mean that whatever truth there may be in the rumor that the administration has other financial plans coming or that Mr Voorhees himself is anxious to secure otherlegislation all these schemes will at least temporarily be held aloof and the reoeal bill be given undivided attention Senator Harris also made important announcements nouncementsin the meeting on behalf it is supposed of opponents of the repeal t bill this to the effect that hereafter it was his purpose to demand at all times that there shall be a quorum in the Senate Sen-ate This announcement is supposed to have originated in the state of affairs discovered dis-covered in the Senate yesterday |
