Show Anna Dickinsons Lecture SpecIal I to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK May 5Less than half the seats were occupied at Herrmanns theatre last evening when Anna Dickinson delivered her second lecture since her incarceration in-carceration in the Danville lunatic asylum Many of those present had come with the I expectation of hearing something sensa tional In this they were not disappointed for Miss Dickinsons address contained many lively hits at President Harrison I Chairman Clarkson and George Kennan the lecturer One of the notable features of the lecture however was a personal onslaught upon oxPresident Cleveland which many in the audience seemed to re gard as indecent and out of place It seemed to have been inspired by the I that a cousin of Mr Cleveland named George Thompson was one of those who assisted in removing Miss Dickinson from her homo to the insane asylum Mr Cleveland had also aroused L her by some recent general ob servations on some asylums which L he thought were much maligned A good I deal of this thunder had been left over from L I the last campaign when Miss Dickinson had I taken the stump for Harrison For this she said she was to have received 5000 from the Republican party and she rod a letter she had written the President before her incarceration relating to her agreement with Clarkson to which Dudley had as sented She was to make thirty speeches atS125 a piece Miss Dickinson was dressed I in a Wine colored gown trimmed with white lace and many precious stones gus tened on her hands There was she gls a special appropriateness in wearing that dress because she had worn it in Indian apolis when in the home of the hat that fills the White House I was besought by besought whatever lies under the penthouse of the hat to make speeches in his behalf May Benjamin Harrison may every ono who has had part and parcel in this matter of putting mo in an asylum as an insane pauper everyone that has tried to destroy the faithful daughter covering her sisters shame stand at Gods bar at the last not for honor but for infamy and may Ameri can sense of justice write at the end of the record of infamy Amen l |
