Show THE DUTY OF THE HOUR I On Monday at noon the Democrats of this city will meet in convcntionr Delegates Dele-gates have been duly appointed from the several precincts to represent the views of the voters They are not chosen to advocate advo-cate merely their own sentiments but to voice the wishes of the people who selected se-lected them for that imrpose From the TMrdprecmcfc unfortunately there are two sets of delegates This shows the condition of the party in that vicinity It is not for THE HERALD to say what should be done with these contending con-tending delegations except that a fair hearing of both factions should be given and a decision rendered in the light of the whole situation It is a matter of great regret that personal ambition or any private interest should be the occasion occa-sion of such disturbances as have occurred in that precinct That spirit ought to be strongly discouraged and at the same time the voice of the majority of the electors elec-tors in the precinct expressed in duo lorm should be recognized At such a timo as the present particularly particu-larly harmony ought to prevail in the ranks of the party It any differences have arisen there should be a disposition to waive them for the good of the party And nothing should be encouraged which will give aid and comfort to the common enemy The object in view of the better classes ofthe people and by this we do not mean the richer classes by any means but the friends of qrder and honest government is to clear out the crowd that has held control of affairs since February 1190 This is the intense desire of Democrats Bepublicans and respectable people who have not yet affiliated with either of It hose parties How that can be best achieved ia a matter of the greatest moment The Democratic party in this city we have no doubt will take into consideration considera-tion the necessities and also the possibilities possibili-ties of the occasion If the party alone cannot accomplish the task before the good citizens such steps as will be most certain to effect it will be the next in order We have no doubt that prudence and wise counsel will prevail and that such action will be taken as will be most likely to Eecure the reforms which are imperative t Bear this in mind Anythin g or anybody any-body that works into the plots of the local foe whether under the pretext of straight Democracy or any other subterfuge sub-terfuge is to be opposed and suppressed Municipal redemption from Liberal domination domi-nation extravagance and fraud the one thing needful and it will be true Democracy Demo-cracy to take such a course as will make this certain and secure Democrats do your duty and carry out the desires of THE PEOPLE |
