Show DISABLED VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS The Homes Will be Filled for Many Vears to Come Washington Oct 7Chairman Oath waite of the Committee on Military Affairs presented to the House this morning the report of the board of managers man-agers of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers Gen W B Frank in president of the board presented the following statement Average cost per member for the year ending June 30 1892 14375 and for 1893 14065 Average number present during the year 1892 265 and 1893 495 there were thirty less deaths in 1893 than the previous year Average age of those nared for in 1S92 5862 years and in 1893 903 years Average number of members present in 1893 14661 whole number cared for 23460 number in state homes 5501 increase 171 National government govern-ment payments to state homes 5S7o8175 amount expended for home 206694 aside from construction and repairs The gold cure was tried in the homes and all branches with success about 14000 being reformed He pointed out I that the depression in business materially increased the number of inmates in the I lotues The amount appropriated for the year ending June 30 1894 is 23785G389 The board submits no estimates for the year 1895 but says tae abnormal increase of the first three months of the current year warns the board that the appropria ion for the present year is insufficient for the next year The amount estimated for state and territorial estmated ritorial homes is 575000 the same as last year The report says Every years year-s es losses of membership by discharges and deaths greater thanjtheyear previous but each year admissions more than makeup make-up these losses No one can tell how long this state of things will continue jut there are at this time 1000000 persons living who i they become unable to support themselves will be entitled to admission I is predicted the membership will increase in-crease for some years to come |
