An Attempt to Aisasmatn Kentucky oUce LOUISVILLE July HA desperate attempt at-tempt was made to asaasinate the Middles borough police force yesterday afternoon A lot of disreputable characters who frequent fre-quent Gum Springs a low drinking and Rambling dive just outside the city limits concocted a plot to murder the officers They accordingly stationed fifteen of their gang in ambush along the Louisville and Nashville road Two of their number went heat within the city limits and commenced com-menced firIng their Winchesters These two were Gulls Johnson and Frank Roasi mus Chief Maples with a posse of officers went in pursuit of the pair and they were led into ambush Over A hundred shots were exchanged The police were forced to retire after two of their number were shot A posse of about one hundred citizens citi-zens organized and armed They came up with Johnson und Rossimus whom they captured after a severe light Johnson was tauen to the county jail at Pmeville while Uosaimus was put in the city jail hereAbout here-About this morning a crowd of masked men entered the jail and took Rossimus out They led him to the bridge and shot him several times and then placed a rope about his neck
