Show French Opinion of the McKlnler Bill PARIS July 22An Associated Press correspondent here has been making inquiries in-quiries of chambers of commerce in Prance as to the present feeling concerning the McKinley tariff and as to whether the feeling feel-ing will affect the French exhibit at Chicago The vicepresident of the cnam her of commerce of Algiers said that the chamber passed a resolution not long ago declaring the new tariff law tended to render ren-der very difficult if not impossible all trade between France and tee United States The secretary of the chamber of commerce com-merce of Rheims said For the present at least the McKinley bill is an obstacle to the participation of our manufacturers In the Chicago exhibition but if within a reasonable length of time a friendlier spirit is suown by the American republic for our productions the chamber will then be ready to second the ministers efforts The president of tho chamber of commerce com-merce of Roabaix writes that the McKinley tariff has produced most unfortunate impressions im-pressions and it is feared the Chicago exhibition ex-hibition will not have the reception here it woula otherwise have had Stetienne and Marseilles write to the same effect The president ot the Bordeaux chamber says considering the unjust prohibition of American salt meats for years past they are not surprised at the retaliatory McKinley Mc-Kinley bilL |
