Show FUR THEf RIOTS IN IiiIS3 P Numerous Conflicts Between Officers Of-ficers and the Mob A NUMBER A INJURED The Whole City Is Sow Occupied by Troops It Is Believed tlio Boulangtsts Are Fostering Foster-ing the Trouble for Political Ends Tho Original Cause for the Trouble Is Given Out PARIS July 5It now appears that most of the rioting of yesterday was not by students but by the riffraff who took advantage of the occasion to raise disturbance dis-turbance This class resumed rioting this morning and had numerous conflicts with the police and soldiers A number on both sides were injured The affairs assumed such a serious asnect that thn authorities have determined to restore order at any cost Almost the whole city is occupied by troops who have orders to repress disorder with a strong hand The body of Nuger a young man killed I yesterdays riots was conveyed by unfrequented un-frequented streets to Lyons railway station sta-tion this morning and sent home to his parents at Lyons to avoid another uprising upris-ing The mob has been cowed by tho determined deter-mined front presented by the government calling out the military and all is quiet up to 5 oclock this evening I is feared however that trouble will be renewed after nightfall The government will order troops to fire into the crowds i necessary The trouble originally roso from the fining of the manager of the students ball he being fined for allowing allow-ing girls to appear in a state little removed re-moved from nudity The students however how-ever disgusted with the roughs for carrying things so far have withdrawn from the streets and only the scum of Paris is now concerned They assure the government that they no longer have any sympathy with the trouble and have nested placards to that effect It is believed be-lieved the Boulangists are fostering Bonlangsts troubles for political ends Police stopped omnibus and tramway traffic at noon today to prevent a repetition tion of yesterdays disorders and to prevent pre-vent groups from forming on the streets There has been no further rioting Several Sev-eral of those arrested for taking part in the riots have been sentenced to terms of imprisonment varying from one week to two months Midnight Eiotintr was resumed at 930 oclock tonight The mob assumed a threatening attitude and the police charged the rioters who made a determined deter-mined stand and a hand to hand fight followed The struggle continued till the police were reinforced by a large force of Republican guard when the rioters were dispersed At 1110 oclock there Was a sanguinary encounter on Rue Do Secoles Exact details wanting but it is known the Republican guards charged the riotors with drawn swords and the police opened fire with revolvers One man was killed by a cut from a sabre and others were taken to neighboring drug stores where their wounds were dressed Another mob set fire to a tram car and burned i to ashes The assistant brigadier briga-dier of police was found drowned near polce Grenell bridge and is supposed to have I been thrown into the water by the mob Two hundred persons were arrested tonight to-night for participating in the disturbances |
