evening even-ing for tho transaction of regular business busi-ness President William Nelson occupied the chair and all members were present except Pratt The result of the election held on June V 5 relative to the issuance of school bonds 10 1 in the amount of 225000 was officially received ant the vote canvassed by the board after whIch it was declared that the election resulted affirmatively there being 827 votes for the issuance 212 against ana four blanks The formula prescribed by law was followed and the result entered upon the minutes in the usual way The president and clerk Were then directed to prepare and file with the county clerk a certificate and affidavit as provided by law setting forth the facts as required by law Ueorge R Emery offered to purchase the old benches ic the Sixteenth ward school building Feferred to committee on cites and buildings with power to act WANT A SCHOOL BUILDING Charles Fnilentine thirtyfive other residents of district No 23 petitioned the board to select as one of the proposed Bites for a new building a location in their district as they are compelled to Iii rent a house for foOO a year which will only accommodate about seventy scholars Inferred lugs to committee on sites and build AUCIIITECTS OFFER PLANS I Ware Cornell submitted sketches of y eight and twelve room buildings which they offered to furnish plans for at the following prices Twelve room diagonal building 750 eight room building 500 For duplicate plans of Jackson school including any alterations desired and a different exterior 750 Referred to committee com-mittee on sites and buildings William Fowler explained a bill of the Pleasant Valley Coal company in the sum of 10 for two tons of coal which there had ueen some question about statins that it had been used for school purposes 1 Deferred to committee on furniture and supplies The committee on sites and buildings recommended that they had interviewed the city engineer In regard to the feas ability of establishing permanent grades on the streets adjoining the Washington school site and especially Peach I from First West to Center streets and recommended recom-mended that the clerk be directed to petition pe-tition the city council in behalf of the board to have said grade established as early as possible Adopted TilE WASATCH CONTRACT The committee on sites and buildings reported that they had conferred with the contractor S C Shirrell for the erection of the Wasatch school building and also with his bondsmen Kidder awl i Gibson and that it was not probable that l > V the quality of pressed brick required t F Tjy the specifications can be obtained i in time to complete the building by September j Sep-tember 1 Hence they recommended that the first quality white wire cut common brick of uniform color be substituted In consideration of which the contractor had agreed to deduct f 1600 from the con trict price They also recommended that the entire contract be transferred to the bcndsnen and that they be given until September 1 to complete the building fJ find that the sum of 100 be deducted from 7 the contract price as liquidated damages for each and every day thatthesaid building build-ing is not delivered ready Jor occupancy after September 1893 I Pike moved to amend the report by adding that the written consent of the contractor be obtained to the transfer of the contract to his bondsmen Carried The matter was then referred back for further report The same committee recommended that A F Parshall be employed to furnish the blackboard for the Jackson school building at 55 cents per square yard which is 60 per cent of the cost paid for the blackboards now in the schools Adopted TEACHERS AND SAIiABIES The following report was received from auth-orized to employ any help needed to assist as-sist him in gathering up the books and furniture from the rented school buildings build-ings which are to be given up Carried The finance committee was instructed to advertise for sale the bonds voted on June 5 as soon as possible and to continue con-tinue such advertisement for the length of time prescribed by law It was also decided to use the
