Show CONVICTS ENTERTAINED The Kings Daughters anti Sons Visit the Penitentiary A musical and literary entertainment I was given yesterday afternoon at tho penitentiary by the Salt Lake branch of ho Kings Daughters and Sons for tho I delectation of the prisoners About one hundred of the city people went out and I there were 150 of the 180 prisoners now in the penitentiary present A lengthy programme consisting of I songs recitations and instrumental pieces was rendered and gave great de ighfrto the audience j A duet by W H Whitney andDr A I Bjornsen was well received Mrs V M Silvas song In Old Madrid i and Marguerite by little Corinne Harris evoked rounds of applause Tho mandolin mando-lin and guitar duet by Miss Cum rah Smith and R J Carpenter was a gem The height of enthusiasm was however reached when Professor John E Meqkin was called upon and recited The Dandy Fifth a war reminiscence Mr Meakin is in the front rank of Salt Lake entertainers enter-tainers and has a style peculiar to himself him-self which fairly carried away the audience audi-ence His song The Sword of Bunker Hill 1 was also very finely rendered Short talks were given by Revs Ridgley Clay and Bartlett which concluded con-cluded a very pleasing entertainment |
