Show V SitfnS Of Distress The purpose of the Tribune1 s recent endeavors en-deavors is disclosed in its latest chuckle of delight over the anticipated effects of its efforts It says I But statehood is not here quite yet There are a great many who were advocating advo-cating statehood a few months ago who are very reserved on that question now and perhaps statehood for Utah is not nearly so near as some gentlemen believe be-lieve So that is the aim and intent and animus an-imus of all these pretended disclosures of sporadic cases of men alleged to be not living within the law Just as those outside blackguards of papers declared de-clared It is not any particular regard for morals public or private that prompted the attacks It is a scare against statehood that was contemplated in making them V We are afraid our contemporary will gain but cold comfort from its selfcon gratulations No doubt many persons who plainly expressed their opinions about statehood when Congress was in session and something could be done are very quiet and reserved about it now But there is another consideration which is not so satisfactory to our neighbor and which helps to make it so vicious and that is that many persons who were not only reserved but some of them very outspoken out-spoken in opposition to statehood a short time ago are now unreservedly in favor of it That is an undeniable fact his always easy to tell when our neighbor neigh-bor gets the worst of a bout It calls names rants and wanders and resorts to depths where it knows a decent adversary wilInot follow But anger is not argument argu-ment and the HERALD finds nothing but wrath in the Tribunes latest attempts to answer the facts and reasons we have presented pre-sented |
