outlook is more encouraging than it has been for some time past That tho money markets in the east aro improving has been evident In many ways 4 of late but in no manner more forcibly J 4an by the price paid and the struggle fore for-e 150000 city bonds which were sold last week It i but a very shore time since bonds ot Salt Lake wetft a begging Salt Lakers who have been seeking money in the eastern marts say they havo met with unexpected success in quarters where a year ago not B penny could be raised Ono trust company alone ha I I made arrangements for at least S2SOOOU which will be spent in Salt Lake this year for buildIngs in the various parts of the city and there are also other financial 1 redound movements on foot which will greatly to the advantage of Salt Lakers I Trade in the East I In New York another week has brought additional proof of actual improvement in 1 1 business at many point That trade hasp I disappointed expectations t some extent 4 is obvious and there are some who claim that a reaction has begun of unknown duration du-ration which appeared in Europe last year and which was only deferred here because I of extraordinary crops These have to support sup-port them unusually prices and in some departments a shrinkage in sales But others argue that disappointment is due to excessive expectations and especially of I the failure to take into account the great volume of indebtedness left from real estate speculation at the west and south and the influence here of bad crops and financial depression abroad These have to support them much evidence that the actual business busi-ness transacted all branches considered is greater than ever before at this season t in spite of all obstacles and complaints The reports from other cities are on the I whole favorable At Boston there is I further improvement and a large retail L I trade dry goods jobbers are active and L I mills very well employed western reports I II I are favorable and southern cheese and especially cured meats At St Paul jobbing trade is brisk and at Minneapolis Min-neapolis there is a marked increase with unusual prospects for the lumber trade but flour is dull and low At St Louis i trade is reasonably strong with especial improvement in all building materials in I spite of bad country roads and a railroad waHbout Trade at Kansas City Is quiet though receipts of grain and cattle are light because of bad weather At Omaha business in dry goods and shoes is very active ac-tive and other trade fair At Louisville business is quite satisfactory but dull at Memphis Taylor Co of Philadelphia say I is not entirely proper to assert that the big bank deposits are due to un inability to use the money in business Mercantile and manufacturing concerns have now in use their ordinary resources They have not had a big business busi-ness revival simply by reason of the fact that the farmers having paid off debts are waiting t market their surplus of 1S91 crops before indulging in rural extravagances extrava-gances Western railroad officials say that the farmers always hold on to enormous grain reserves until tho next seasons crops can bs judged The months of May June July and August of 1892 may witness a greater tonnage than in 1891 and yet those earnings for the farmers and railroads will be from a crop garnered a year ago It will then be that the money spent in country towns and villages for goods and not debts will find its way into the pockets of city merchants who in turn will call on the furnaces factories and mills for fresh stocks of products When business men reach the latter stage their additional money requirements will havo to be supplied sup-plied and not until then In the meantime mean-time the investing public and institutions who are compelled to find employment for capital ere looking with anxiety at the low rates for loans the enormous supply of funds an < 3 the scarcity of good investment invest-ment securities Business
