rather a dull week There was very little transpiring beyond the regular routine rou-tine work The lodges held their ordinary tne dinary meetings and the attendances were well up to the average A good deal of unostentatious work of a charitable kind is being done by most of the orders especially by the ladies auxiliaries Masonic In the Masonic orderlast week was an exceptionally quiet one The Commandery met on Thursday evening for regular work and the ladies la-dies of the Eastern Star held an inter eating Iconclave on Fridey evening This week matters will be more active I ac-tive Argenta lodge will meet on Tuesday Tues-day evening and a number of petitions for degrees will be presented On Wed nesdey the chapter will hold its stated convention and on Friday Wasatch lodge will meet in regular session The Nobles of the Mystic Shrine are preparing for a grand pilgrimage to culminate on Feb 1 Secretary Phillips of the Masonic board of relief has prepared a very Interesting statement of the amounts received by the board for the last twenty years or since 1873 which is epitomized as follows Wasatch lodge contributed 42431 50 llount Moriah 261450 Argenta Ms 00 Donations 784 15 From sundry sources 458 00 7760 15 I Balance in treasurers hands 293 48 Disbursed 7455 67 I This shows an average disbursement of 37333 per annum for the last twenty twen-ty years The committee on obituary repmed touching the death of rjrothor Thomas I Young of Argenta lodge who departed this life on Jan 1 last The report stated that the deceased was made a Mason on Feb 7 1891 hat he died of heart failure at the age of 33 years the remains were properly i repared for burial and escorted at night tp the depot by twenty members of the craft and shipped to the old home of the deceased de-ceased at Galison 0 where the body was interred with Masonic honors Resolutions of sympathy with the relatives rela-tives were drawn up and spread on the records of thelodge expressing the esteem es-teem in which Brother Young was held by the fraternity as 1 zealous and exemplary Mason indefatigable in the pursuit of his vocation I O O P Without doubt the Interest in lodge meetings and the attendance thereat Is constantly increasing attesting the wisdom of the leading member In bringing forward such matters a prove attractive to the general body of the brotherhood S Salt Lake No 2 and Enterprise No 15 made report of active work during the week Thejjformer lodge cpnferring the D of B L und the latter that of the D of T < i I Ridgley Lodge No 9 visited Enter arise No 15 on Wednesday and added much to the interest of their meeting Utah Lodge had a goodly turnout on Thursday and were kept busy in entertaining en-tertaining a delegation of brothers from Jordan Lodge No3 During the evening the union degree staff elected their officers for the present year The ladies of the Rebekah lodges were out almost en masse on Saturday at Miriams regular meeting They never flinch be the weather foul or fnch fair hot or cold Several applications were filed for action Editor Loder of the Utah Odd Fellow Fel-low does not appear to be suffering with the hard times The paper starts out with a new dress No 1 for 1894 is a well printed newsy sheet Walla Walls Wash is a truly Odd Fellow town No other town in the United States can show such a4 record The have an Odd Fellow for every two voters KiiislitK of Pythias Calanthe lodge met on Monday evening eve-ning and worked in the regular routine Myrtle lodge had a very good meet inc on Tuesday evening at which the rank of knight was conferred on one brother and a considerable amount of work incidental to the lodge was dqne Rocky Mountain lodge had a specially fine meeting on Thursday evening at which the pages rank was conferred on Frank Snyder Monitor lodge met on Wednesday S evening and besides other business arl conferred the degree of esquire on one brother and that of knight on two brethren The Uniform Rank had an interesting interest-ing meeting on Friday evening at which the following officers were elected to serve for the term beginning February 16 on the evening or WM E day the Installation will takeplacef t > J V Y recorder A pleasant Interlude was the presen ttn to the retiring Sir Knight Cap taln w W Hall of T Y Hal a beautifully wrought medal of honor by the mem hers of the division as a recognition of his efcient services recogiton two terms of office Captain Hal has been an indefatigable worker indefatgble and to him is due in a great measure the present efficiency of the division The incom ing Sir Knight Captain J W Jenkins was presented with a medal by Captain Hal personally In recognition of this vigilence and regularity during the past year in all of which time he did not miss a single meeting The medal was made from Utah silver and bore the emblem of the division worked by I Captain Hal himself The coming great event in tile order is the celebration of the thirtyfirst anniversary of the order of the Knights of Pythias which will take place on Sunday February 18 The arrangements arrange-ments have not yet been perfected but as Is customary the lodges will all com bine and in a body attend one or other of the churches besides holding services on their own account suitable to the occasion The anniversary falls on February 19 and will be wH celebrated on the Sun day nearest that date which will be Sunday week February IS Both branches of the P thjan sisters i held their meetings last week Ivy I Temple met on Thursday afternoon and Jlizpah temple on Friday afternoon after-noon at the ICof P hall Only routine rou-tine business was transacted but this week there will be degree work Sons of St George The Sons of St George will hold their next social on Wednesday February Feb-ruary 7 at the Temple of Honor hal a small collection will be made to defray de-fray the incidental expenses which are incurred fpr rent of the hal and to stay the musician who has to be engaged en-gaged for the entertainment The expenses ex-penses of the lodge are more than the receipts by the dues paid in during the last few months Owing to the scarcity of work every dollar a man has been able to earn has had to be expended to keep his family from starving so that under the circumstances it could not be expected to be used for any other purpose but as times look up the officers anticipate a better showing for the order and only feel too to glad that they have been able to weather the storm without having to go under like a great many concerns have had to do during the last year owing to the tightness of the money market and creditors the relentless spirit shown by their A O U IV Temple lodge met Monday night and elected J A Shelton to the junior workman degree also conferred the junior ju-nior workman degree upon Richard Sexton This leaves four to receive the junior workman degree next Mon day viz John Hunter Martin Rollins J A Shelton and Walter C Ferrol A warrant for 6 sick en fiFe was drawn for James Hilton also a warrant war-rant for 3 to pay dues and assessments I assess-ments for H L Glenn There being no further business the lodge closed in C H and P Salt Lake Valley lodge had its usual usu-al meeting on Thursday evening The usual routine work was done and several sev-eral applications were received from parties who wish to Join which were referred to the proper committees |
