Show FROM THE GARDEN CITY UTAH COUNTY TEACHERS HAVE A GOOD TI3IE An Arrest at ValRlmrg for Unlawful Unlaw-ful Cohabitation Man Run Oycr and Killed at P V ProVe Jan 13he Utah County Teachers Association met today in the Parker school house in their midwinter midwin-ter session I was a special occasion and all the teachers from the country districts were the guests of the Provo teachers In the forenoon they met in regular meeting and listened to an able lecture on the Philosophy of Education by Dr K G Maeser after which there was a general discussion of the question Resolved That there are text books in use in the public schools that can be dispensed with The negatives seemed to prevail The regular work being completed a half hour was spent in a social chat and at 2 oclock the banquet was announced an-nounced The feast had been in the course of preparation for a day or so and when Beady it would have made happy the heart of any epicure There was about 125 persons at the first table and as the meal progressed toasta recitations instrumental and vocal music enlivened the throng The affair was a complete success and a host of happy teachers felt more than grateful for the hospitality extended them by their Garden city associates The programme will be continued this evening at Southworths hall when a grand ball will be given Last evening a benefit party was given in the Third Ward Assembly hall for Will P Silver a young man of that ward who will leave in a few days on a mission to the Samoan islands I is-lands There were about seventy couples present and the affair was a most pleasant and successful one On next Friday evening at the Provo Opera house a grand carnival and masquerade ball will be given Hon William H King is named as King Carnival A strong committee has the event in hand and at this writing every indication points to a most successful I suc-cessful and pleasant party Costumes will be obtained in Salt Lake and every effort will be exerted to make I it the social event of the season The sale of seats for the Patti Rosa engagement commenced this morning On former occasions her company has i i met with a rather flattering reception and it is thought this time will be no I i exception j Last evening the Provo theatre band went to Springvllle and played for a bal given in Reynolds hall by the Improvement associations of that I city The party was well attended affair and was considered quite a society I I i The Utah stake quarterly conference j I confer-ence convened this morning Elders George Reynolds and B H Roberts were present from Salt Lake and addressed ad-dressed the congregation Reports were made by the various wards and a good time was had I is expected that some of the first presidency will b with us tQmorrow I Last evening Major Berry brought down frOm Walsburg Wasatch m vValsburg county coun-ty Daniel Biglow charged with unlawful un-lawful cohabitation He was taken be i ore Commissioner Dudley this morning morn-ing The defendant pleaded not gui ty and waived examination His bonds were placed at 500 The complaint was filed last August and charges him with lining with Permelia BigLow Mary Biglow and Jane Biglow the first I names of the two last persons to the complaint being unknown One of the supposed plural wives was arrested but was admitted to bail at Walsburg This morning Sheriff John A Brown received a telegram from the justice of the peace of P V Junction asking i hIm to forward a cheap coffir and burial shrouds in which to bury some man at present unknown who was run over and killed by a Denver Rio Grande train at that place yesterday yes-terday Mr S W Ross of Lehi filed his bonds today as recorder of the Tick yule mining district I now looks as though there was something permanent in the gold excitemnet of that locality I and many from this section of the c9untry have great hopes that something some-thing exceptionally good will soon be developed I Councilman J E Booth came down I from Salt Lake city last evening and today was enjoying himself at the I teachers banquet Mr J A Reese js over today from Spanish Fork l B W Driggs of Pleasant Grove is attending conference today County Selectman Evans is over today to-day from Lehi on business Bishop Thorn of Pleasant Grove is in town today Milton Price of Goshen is in town on legal business We have been enjoying good sleighing sleigh-ing the past week but the pleasant weather of yesterday and today is fast removing the remaining snow I I |
