| Show OPERATIONS AT LEAMINGTON Construction of the Iliex Smelter Being Be-ing Hushed General Manager Williams of the Ibex syndicate returned last night from Leamington where for the past week he has been personally superintending superin-tending the erection of the smelter buildings being put up there by his company Good projrresss is being made with the consftluction and the buildings are rapidly nearing completion comple-tion In order to reduce the team haul the Union Pacific has put in a siding nearly opposite the smelter site thereby cutting off nearly a mile The grading of the spur from the main line to the smelter is in progress and the track will be laid in the very near future Several of the smaller buildings have already been completed and the sampling samp-ling plant is now going in Extensive ore floors are being put down in order that the shipment of ore from the mine may be commenced at once It is the intention of Mr Williams to get at least a months supply on hand before operations are commenced at the smelter Just before leaving for the north Mr Williams received a report from the mines to the effect that they hadjust made a very rich strike in the Charmed one of the properties controlled by the syndicate On the 100 foot level the true vein has been encountered and the drift has already cut through < ten feet of clean ore running high in copper gold and silver It is very evident that the vein is considerably wider than the number of feet named and in order to determine the full extent of the strike operations will be continued the same locality wrth considerable vigor The Ibex and the Qther claims in the group are all looking well and a great amount of ore as being taken out and stored preparatory to the commencement of shipments to the companys smelter For the purpose of securing a heav ier power Mr Williams recently let the contract for the widening and deepening of the McIntyre canal from which the water power for the smel ter is to be derived to Contractor Stowell who for some time past has been one of the subcontractors on the work of the Beaver Irrigation company com-pany Three outfits are now hard at work making the improvements which will increase the flow of water and consequently the power fully onehalf The changes in the canal will be made from its source to the smelter a dis tance of about four miles In the Pat Mphan group a near neighbor of the Ibex a rich strike of coppergoldsilver ore has also been made At a depth of eighty feet in the main shaft the miners encountered encounter-ed a threefoot vein of high grade ore and develonment is demonstrating the fact that the ore body is very extensive exten-sive The property will without doubt soon be making shipments to the Ibex smelter < All of the other mines in the districtare looking extremely ex-tremely well and Detroit is said to be about the liveliest section in the western west-ern mining world |
