Show AMERICAS CONDOLENCE In Common with the World She Mourns Ivossiiths Death Washington March 28The following follow-ing is the letter of VicePresident Stevenson Stev-enson transmitting the condolence of the United States Senate to the family of Louis Kossuth In the Senate of the United States March 26 To the family of Louis Kossutn have the honor to send you a copy of a i resolution adopted bythe Senate of the United States March 25 1894 In obedience to the decree of the Senate I hereby tender you respectful condolence for the loss you In common com-mon with the whole world have sus tained in the death of this illustrious patriot and lover of liberty The people of the United States still remember his visit in 1851 The profound affection and respect with which he inspired i them still abide in their hearts Though a citizen of a foreign and dis I tant land he spoke our language as if it were his native tongue His natve consummate con-summate eloquence made a great and permanent addition to the treasures of our literature We are glad to bear witness that to the cause of constitu tional the end liberty he remained faithful to I have the honor to remain with great respect your obedient servant A E Stevens VicePresident of the United Unit-ed States The Obsequies Turin March 2SThe funeral services ser-vices over the remains of Louis Kos suth were held in the Evangelic church this evening The route of procession to the church was lined with the municipal muni-cipal guard The streets presented an unusual spectacle on account of the presence or throngs of Hungarians in natural costume Only the prominent members of the Hungarian delegation and the representatives of other foreign for-eign countries were able to secure admission ad-mission to the church The coffin rested rest-ed on a handsome catafalque in front of the altar and was covered with flowers flow-ers A guard of honor of Hungarian student and the sons and other rela tives of the dead were grouped about i Pastor Peyrout delivered a eulogistic eulo-gistic sermon and after other simple services the body was borne to the railroad station followed by a great multitude of multtude many nationalities There it i was delivered to General Turrmarkus representing Buda Pesth by the mayor of Turin in a sympathetic address The train is expected to reach Buda Pesth tomorrow morning Shortly before 9 oclock tonight the special train to convey the remains of Kossuth to Buda Pesth came into the station and the coffin was placed upon the train The > guard of honor composed com-posed of Hungarian students then I took their places in the carriages together to-gether with the members of Kossuths family and the representatives of the municipality of Buda Pesth A detachment detach-ment of military was present and at 9 oclock as the train started on its journey to the Hungarian capitol three volleys were fired capiol |
