Show A BLACK ItAIMIOAV I Latest Frcalc of Mature Seen In Idaho I In these times of unusual disturbances anything out of the regular order is not j cause for any great wonderment but a black rainbow seen here last Sunday i night was the occasion of more or less I incre3t and scientific speculation by some whose minds run more to causa and effect than superstition while others I oth-ers whose mental faculties are peopled I with hoodoos spooks tommyknockers and signs and omens and such had I their peace of mind considerably disturbed I dis-turbed by the unusual if not altogether 11 newborn phenomenon We call It a rainbow for want of a better descriptive descrip-tive term but rain did not figure in the cause or causes that produced it The I j gorgeous rainbow of the day time is S said to be a bow of promise If it is i so the superstitiously Inclined naturally ask i what is the meaning ofa black rainbow at night This bow extended from the horizon in the southwest up I near the zenith where It faded but following I fol-lowing Its course on to the northeast it appeared again the same distance I from the zenith as where It left off before reaching the zenith in following I it up from the southwest and continued on to the horizon In the northeast The oheit fSib f phenomenon was visible for an hour or I two It resembled In color a streak i of smoke but was not smoke nor a i cloud nor mist It never varied the least bit in form position nor density Mr Reel nightwatchman and Fred Garrecht first observed it and afterwards after-wards others saw 1ft but no one that I we know of was taking observations when it faded from the sky Stars were plainly visible through this black bow as they are through the tall of a comet Bows of this kind at night may not be a new thing but none of those who saw this ever observed one before or heard of one The sky was perfectly clear with the exception of a small thin streak of clouds just above the horizon in the southeastIdaho World |
