during the week just closing Next week will probably be a quiet one as Father Christmas will I be upon us and all will be gaiety and fun I rather than solid work I Masonic Mount Moriah lodge met on Monday evening and elected officers as follows Daniel Dunne worshipful master Thomas M Surbaueh senior warden George L Hawkins junior warden John B Farlow reelected treasurer Chris Diehl reelected secretary P L Williams trustee The annual election of officers for El Kalah Temple Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of tile Mystic Shrine took place on Wednesday evening and resulted as follows fol-lows Mount Mariah lodge will beheld be-held on Monday evening A general invitation itation has been issued to all members of the order Grand Master Schilling will be master of ceremonies und the proceedings proceed-ings will be followed by a banquet On Tuesday evening Argenta lodge installed their officers Past Grand Master A M Grant acted as installing officer and a grand banquet was partaken of at the conclusion of the work The officers installed in-stalled were W T Dalby W M J M Stull S W A D Elliott J W John T Scott treasurer M C Phillips secretary R L Scannel trustee Wasatch lodge also had their installation installa-tion on Friday nicht when the officers whose names have already been published in THE HERALD took their station in the lodge Tonight the Chapter will install their officers L B Smith H P H Hill potentate A Andrews scribe A M Grant treasurer and J M Bowman secretary After the installation the new officers will entertain the brethren at a banquet I O O F This order has had a fairly good week and quite a number of new members have been added Jordan lodge had a very good meeting on Monday night Theregular routine business was transacted and several visiting brothers were present and added greatly to the interest in-terest of the proceedings by making very good speeches Unity encampment mt in regular session on Tuesday I and worked the routine business The attendance was very good and a great interest was manifested Enterprise lodge met on Wednesday I evening and conferred the second degree on two candidates The work was don in excellent style by the very efficient degree staff of the lodce Ridgeley lodge No9 also met on Wednesday eyeninc and worked in the second degree one candidate candi-date being initiated into the mysteries of that rank On Thursday Utah lodge No 9 met but had only routine business Fidelity and Salt Lake lodges both met last evening In the former the second degree was conferred on two candidates Fidelity lodge has made wonderful progress prog-ress during the last six weeks not a meeting night has passed without several new members being enrolled In Salt Lake lodge the business was of a routine character Several visitors were present and a very pleasant time was passed Naomi Rebekah degree lodge will meet this evening when several candidates are expected to appear for iralallation The Rebekahs are progressing nicely and doing do-ing a very good work all around Knights of Pythias The Pythians have been unusually busy and degree work was done in all the lodges The chief event in prospect is the ball to be given by the Uniform rank on Monday night at Youngers hall The different committees are working hard and the ball will undoubtedly be a grand success The committees are made of completing the organization The new lodge will be composed in a great measure of Pythians who belong to other parts of the country and who have never affiliated with any ot the local lodges They have the best wishes of all the knights in the city and a helping hand will be extended to them and encouragement en-couragement given wherever the opportunity oppor-tunity offers Calanthe lodge met In regular session on Monday iiighfr and conferred the pages rank on one candidate and the esquires es-quires rank on three The card of Brother Sykes a knight from Anaconda Mont was presented and without doubt a the brother will be duly admitted as a member of Calanthe at the next meeting of that lodge Myrtle lodge enjoyed a very pleasant meeting on Tuesday evening which the rank of cquire was conferred on two pages The attendance was very good and a pleasant and profitable time was spent On Thursday evening Rocky Mountain lodge had a large meeting A good deal of routine business was transacted and the second degree conferred con-ferred on one brother Several now applications ap-plications for membership were received which will be dealt with in due course The Uniform rank met on Friday evening for drill A goodly number of the sir knights were present and the exercises ex-ercises under the direction of of Captain Hall were gone through in a very creditable credit-able manner Ivy Temple Pythian Sisters held its usual meeting and enjoyed a pleasant time This branch of the order is growing grow-ing and is always to the front in works of charity and love The officers of the encouraging reports of the progress of the order were re eived from Almy Wy where there is a very prosperous pros-perous lodge and numerous recruits are being taken in weekly The brethren in England and also in Sweden give good news of the spread of the order in those countries In this city the lodge is increasing in-creasing and the hall is now found too small to accommodate the numbers who very good meeting on Monday nicht and conferred the Workman degree on two candidates Several applications for membership were received and will be dealt with in due course Salt Lake Valley lodge met on Thursday I evening and conferred the Workman degree de-gree on W C Dewar G W Bruton and S F Kershaw were admitted by card and seven candidates were balloted for and elected to membership and two new applications were received I On Wednesday evening the Salt Lake Legion of Select Knights was resuscitated I as a result of the visit of W H Adams Grand Commander A meeting of the knights is called for Monday evening at the office of S W Darke in the Hooper block when all members of this branch of the order are invited to attend Cnlendoninn Club The club will hold an open meeting on Tuesday evening when instrumental music and song will be the order of the evening A good programme has been prepared and a pleasant entertainment is assured All members and their friends are invited to attend The club will give a banquet on Dec 31 in celebration of the Scottish feast of Hogmannay I Sons of St George The Sons of St George held their regular regu-lar meeting on Wednesday night at the Temple of Honor hall It was a very interesting teresting one being the initiation night for the new officers for the next six months term Following were the names Worthy president W Gill Mills icepresident J conferred upon him After the initiation the newly elected Worthy Pres dent W Gill Mills made an excellent and ionlstimng speech exhorting all sir knights to rally round him and put forth theIr best endeavors for the good aud welfare wel-fare of the order the members being bound together by bonds that are worthy of the Sons of St George and of old England He also tendered heart I felt thanks to the lodge for the honor i conferred upon him and said that he would do his utmost during the next term to prove worthy of the confidence reposed in him by working for the advancement and building up of the order he also earnestly requested that all should work together and aid him in the work This order was organized in Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania in the year 1871 by a few Englishmen English-men who were driven to take measures to protect their lives against an organized band of assassins known at that time as I Molley Majuires Therefore the members must regard it as an essential I principle of the Sons of St George that wherever it may be just and necessary the combined power of the order shall without hesitation be exerted for the mutual protection of each others rights and property A11 who know the advantages advant-ages of membership in this order feel it their duty to bring to the knowledge of their fellowcountrymen if possible that which has proved so beneficial to themselves I them-selves and in so doing can show why allEn all-En lishmen should ioin the order I Ancient Order of Foresters The Court Pride of Utah No 7237 met at their hall last Wednesday evening and with a good attendance Chief Banger Beynon in the chair The regular routine rou-tine was gone through as usual and several sev-eral speeches made for the good and welfare wel-fare of the order James Moffat was initiated in-itiated and four applications for membership member-ship were received and referred to the investigating committee The printed report of the supreme lodge in New York was received and read The report is indeed in-deed flattering to the order It shows a membership of about C00000 in the United States with a membership of 100000 in the insurance department The death rate for the first ten months of 1892 being only twentyseven out of the entire membership mem-bership of the insurance department This shows great care in receiving and passing upon applications The order is
