Show 1 Misplaced Charity Bestowed on Russian Refugees Ref-ugees CHICAGO April 21After an evening of the wildest excitement a detail of police was loft on guard tonight at the Shelter house of the society in aid of refugees Twentyfive or thtrty of these refugees who have been housed and fed for the past I four weeks were provided with work but insisted upon the continuance of charity I protesting they were not able to work The agents df the society after making every effort to induce them to get out determined de-termined to eject them and this was done this morning After a short time the refugees returned and being refused admittance made an attack at-tack on the house tearing down one of the doors The police were summoned and quieted the rioters but this evening trouble started again the refugees beihg joined by the street rabble The police were called again and after vigorous work the refugees were separated I sepa-rated from the rabble and tho situation patiently explained to them through an interpreter They again set up the cry I they were unable to work but after two hours wrangling were forced to leave They threaten to make trouble and a detail I de-tail of police remains on guard |
