Show BLAINE INTERVIEWED He Says He Did Not Beaten In Order That He Hight Accept the domination NEW YORK June 4A Washington special spe-cial says In an Interview with Secretary Blame late this afternoon he said his resignation was not occasioned by the near approach of the Republican convention and would not affect its action in the slightest extent The question of his candidacy or his acceptance of tho pro offered nomination did not influence him In deciding to retire from the state department de-partment his only object being t obtain personal freedom and peace He then proceeded pro-ceeded to indicate the reasons why no resigned re-signed He felt eupersensative because of the constant discussion ot his name in connection connec-tion with the presidential nomination To this was added tbe annoyance of the sensational sensa-tional rumors constantly placed in circulation circula-tion as to his working to accomplish Har risons defeat and at tho same time encouraging encour-aging his friends to pursue a similar course Without any reference as to tho truthfulness plausibility or practicability of these reports they apparently had a perceptible effect upon the presidents personal per-sonal friends and most intimate admirers The feeling daily grew upon Blaine and he was regarded with suspicion and distrust dis-trust Friends of the administration practically prac-tically considered him guilty of duplicity and even his associates in the cabinet seemed to look upon him with silent reproach re-proach Tncre also seemed to bo a constant desire de-sire to humiliate him by urging the necessity neces-sity of further public declaration that he S was not a candidate for the Republican nomination Domlaton These thoughts and suspicions constantly constant-ly preyed upon Blames mind until the worry and annoyance became intolerable and he determined to resign and having fully decided upon his course he desired asp a-sp edy settlement of tho whole matter in order that he might enjoy the rest of a private citizen which was denied him as apart I a-part and parcel of tho administration |
