Show THE POPES JUBILEE Impressive Services Bring the Celebration Cele-bration to a Close Rome Feb ISThe closing ceremony cere-mony in connection with Pope Leo XIIIs jubilee took place today and consisted of mass celebrated by him in St Peters followed by the To Deum given Sixty thousand tickets were out for the final celebration and it is estimated that 50000 people were present pres-ent Mass w celebrated at the papal altar Leo was borne into the basilica at 940 oclock preceded by a cortege of cardinals and bishops The entrance of the pope was announced an-nounced from the dome by a blast from a silver trumpet At the conclusion of the mass Leo intoned the Te Deum which was chanted by the whole congregation The pope then reseated himself in the Sedalia and with a tiara on his head blessed < the audience He then retired Into the chapel amid prolonged cheering cheer-ing The pope appeared considerably improved In health and intoned in a strong voice Tonight the facades of St Peters and other churches all Catholic institutions tutions and a great many houses are brilliantly illuminated The popes physicians say he is much better but have advised him not to over exert himself |
