sturdy a gold camp as ever grew In the west was the epigramatic tribute paid the new district by A N Butts as he puffed a cigar in the lobby of the Walker last evening Yes sir continued the gold hunter hun-ter as the idle gnats began to gather round him I have been in nearly all the gold camps and never saw one start out under more favorable auspices aus-pices In the first place the gold is there in quality as well as quantity the cyanide process takes to Its properties I pro-perties like the legendary colonel toI apple brandy and the zone by which the country Is traversed is one of the best denned in the country Much prospecting No and dd little active development develop-ment There Is an excuse for the former for-mer for the reason that the snow has fallen to unusual depth this season and with the ground in this condition Soud conditon intelligent prospecting is out of the question The prospector may be relied re-lied on when the season is opened however and a big chapter of important import-ant strikes may be expected Development Devel-opment work as I remarked is exasperatingly ex-asperatingly tame There are plenty of holes In which work might be going forward at this time but through lack of faith or lack of money it is not Why continued the gold hunter do you know that upon half the showing in some countries camps have sprung up that in a single year found i impossible to provide shelter for the rush All they require at Mercur is a little development to make i the refuge of floating millions next foatng mIaons year and If a little local capital will recognize recog-nize that fact and get a hump on itself It-self it may draw out a fortune next fall or before Mr Butts states that alarge portion of the district is now and has been for many seasons under stakes but that the departure of the snow will open abundant come opportunity for all who 5 Rich Copper Deposits The copper discoveries in Lisburne valley now promise to place that locality local-ity among the most formidable rivals I of the rising sisterhood of camps Thomas Daly returned after a rough voyage Into the valley yesterday and brings wit him a number of samples that will run high in copper The property he has just inspected les in the valley between the Blue mountains and La Salle valley and is some sev entyfive miles distant from the railroad rail-road Its developments consist of a shaft which at a depth of seventyfive feet from the surface disclosed a vein of copper ore six feet in width and from which samples yielded 25 percent per-cent copper and eighteen ounces silver ver To enable the owners however to work i through more economical avenues a tunnel was started at the bottom of the hill which has now been driven a distance of 110 feet and which will intercept the vein at a depth of 150 feet from the surface Within two miles of the property the owners have reached a well defined vein of coal which at a depth of twelve feet is six feet between avails and which affords ample fuel for blacksmithing black-smithing and other uses The owners are holding onto this with Jealous tenacity and congratulate themselves that when the iron horse shall have reached it that a fortune will be realized izedUpon Upon the horrizon with the Daly copper property Is another being worked work-ed and developed by Judge Hall and Captain May of Paradox From its workings samples have been obtained that assayed 50 per cent copper and fifteen ounces silver The owners are now taking out a 20ton lot to be shipped ship-ped for mill test in New York Fifteen miles distant at the fodt of the La Salic mountain Ben Sale Lackay Is developing a claim the characteristics of which are identical with those mentioned men-tioned and which denotes of the toned denote continuity con-tinuity of the belt for that distance Upon a recent trip into the country Mr Daly reports having brought with him to Salt Lake a sample from the Lackay claim which returned 23 percent per-cent copper and 18 ounce gold and eighteen ounces silver i j The presence of coal will enable the owners of claims in this district t handle the product very economically and Mr Daly feels confident that it will yet be among the foremost camps of the territory Park City Mines I The following review of the week is 1 furnished by the Record I The Anchor company paid oft Its I employes on the Oth as did also the Silver King I I Superintendant R C Chambers came I out from ZIon Thursday morning He I began the work of paying off this morning The needful will begin to circulate freely about Monday next The Salt Lake Herald says that Sod shares of Ontario stock sold in New York this week for 8 a share Readers Read-ers of the Record may put it down that some man owning that amount of stock got pressed for funds and had to sellVarcoe Varcoe and associates expect to have their stamp running about Monday next The plant Is almost completed at this writing and it Is expected that Monday will see everything in shape for a trial run The more prospecting done along the creek the more sure the company feels of making money out of the venture With a strong market D F Condon and his Creole mine would be strictly in it He has recently uncovered two different characters of ore in new ground that give every indication of b Ing very rich and which expert judges pronounce to be time very finest lead carbonates and sulphurets of stiver He is sorting the ore carefully and expects ex-pects to make a shipment as soon is the market takes a turn for the better bet-ter John Bogan Is completinc arrangements arrange-ments to lcave for Mercur and commence com-mence operations upcn the claims owned there by himself and partners While In that camp recently he made i thorough examination of every mine there and was so impressed with the outlook that he at once decided to Commence work upon his own ground He will go by team and take supplies Enough to last hint for some weeks Mr Began is thoroughly impressed with the future of Mercur and as said last week thinks the only thing that can interfere with the future of the amp is for the ore to become base at depth He feels that the claims In which he Is interested will pan out equal to the best of them Since pine ing the above in type Mr Bogan and party have pulled out and are now well an the way to the gold camp
